I've purchased several scales from bad dog burl source. They say they are stabilized at K&G but looking at them, there are some pores and cavities that are not filled with resin. If they have been stabilized, shouldn't all porous parts be filled in?

You may end up with pores in stabilized wood. The vacuum just replaces free air with resin. Larger pores may not fill completely. If you run into some just fill with CA glue and sand normally when dry!

The biggest thing is do they absorb something like water or mineral spirits? If so it's likely not stabilized or not done well.

Simple test - place stabilized scales in a pan of water and watch them sink.... or at most float level with water, but normally a K&G stabilized scale will sink.

Short answer, no.

Stabilizing will sometimes fill pores and small voids, but don't count on it. Some suppliers selling stabilized wood take time to fill all the voids.
