Scallion or OSO Sweet?

My next knife purchase is going to be either the Kershaw Scallion or the Kershaw OSO Sweet. I like the scallion being usa made, and being lighter weight, but the OSO Sweet has a bigger blade (3.5in). Both have Speed Safe and a Flipper, which is what I want. I am kind of leaning toward the OSO Sweet because the 2.25 inch blade seems too small.

The OSO Sweet has Aus 6 steel, and the Scallion has 420HC....which one is better? I'm thinking they are both quite similar.
Which knife should I get?

All help appreciated!

I would go with the scallion personally but for a little more money you could get the bigger leek or you could get a lil crazy and get a SOG flash 2 for roughly 40 bucks... Or even crazier and get a tenacious or persistance(I think that's what the smaller one is called...) from spyderco.

Edited: :D Thinking of the shallots my bad, good luck I'm sure you will like which ever knife you pick up

check out Kershawguy in the dealer exchange section as he has Blurs very cheap and OSO sweets. That said I have the Oso sweets and Scallion. The scallion is a much better knife.

with pocket knives at this price level, go with what style of blade serves you best.

How so? I wont be doing any hard tasks with the knife, mostly utility use, and if I need to, as a defensive tool, so a extremely durable folder is not a must. Is there a huge quality difference between the two? If there isn't I'll get the OSO, the scallion seems like a low value with the 420.

go oso if you want that longer blade shape...go scallion if you want a selection of handle finishes...

I recently bought both the Scallion and the Oso Sweet (hard to pass them up for the price, around $45 or less for the two of them if I recall). Both have pretty thin blades, nice and sharp but of course not meant for prying/abuse.

I have found I carry the scallion more often because it is smaller, easier to fit into a jeans watch-pocket or in my front pocket which always has my large-ish keyring/keys, and because at work I'm usually supposed to wear dress pants, which are uncomfortable with too much stuff in the pocket s (thank God I don't have to wear a tie!). I also have a Kershaw Tanto Blur as well as Spyderco Native, but I don't often bring them to work because of all the sheeple in my environment. Even the Scallion opens with enough of a solid whack! that I sometimes use two hands to open it gently and slowly if I have to open it around people (or use my Spyderco Ladybug or little SAK classic).

The flipper with Speed Assist works great on both of them, although it comes to more of a point on the Oso Sweet, so isn't quite as comfortable to operate. I mean the flipper itself comes to a sharp point or corner. I've not had to sharpen either of the knives yet but haven't done a lot of heavy cutting. On the Oso Sweet, there is no thumb stud and the blade shape is longer and thinner, perhaps better for kitchen/food prep work, whereas the Scallion does have thumb studs, but I don't use them because the flipper works so well. Being smaller, it *did* take me a few minutes of practice opening to keep my fingers out of the way not blocking the blade, since my hands are fairly large, but I don't even have to think about it now.

The Scallion does have a more substantial clip than the Oso Sweet, although I usually have it *in* my pocket rather than clipped at the top. I have not removed either clip but it is nice that they are removable. I thought the Scallion was defective at first, stuck closed, till I found it has a tiny screw and pin that can be slid into a "lock" position at the tip of the blade. The tension on that screw is just right, it doesn't move on its own but I can easily push it to "locked" or "unlocked" position.

The OSO sweet has fairly thin and cheap feeling plastic handles. I perfer the solid feel of Scallion. I have both, but if only had one would go for the Scallion or a Leek or Blur...
