Which way do you prefer for scalloping G10 and micarta? Ive heard some folks say round files and other small wheel attachment? Then clean up with dowels/sandpaper? Any tips would be appreciated..:)

Kentucky, are you taking about texturing the scales similar to this:

These 2 were done with a 1 1/2" small wheel and 180 grit belt. I grind/file the pins flat to the scales and the scales even with the tang like doing a normal knife handle. I then round over the corners of the scales with the 1 1/2" wheel and a 100 grit belt, getting close to final handle shape, but oversized. Then I switch to a 180 grit belt and cut the scallops in. For G10, I leave the scallops at 180 grit but take the handle radius at the tang to 400 grit. I've never done it this way with micarta. I hope this helps. I've got one to finish this way tonight and I can add pics if I remember to take my camera home.

rwn2000 - Beautiful work, do you have ny pictures of the thickness? I think mine are all too fat.

I would really love to see a micarta/G10 handle WIP.

I don't want to highjack Kentucky's thread, but here is a spine shot of these two. I think the overall thickness of the smaller one is just over 5/8" and the larger one is about 3/4" thick.

Either way works fine, I usually use my 2" top wheel on my KMG to do most of the work.

I shape and finish my scales like a non-scallop knife with full contour and rounding. After that I cut in the contours with a 60-220 grit belt, lately I have been starting with a 220 belt. I then finish the contours then carefully round the edges with a scotchbrite belt so everything is lightly rounded for comfort. I hand sand the edges with a shoeshine motion if I feel the scales need it, a 1" belt on the grinder will also work well.

I use a 320 grit belt, then finish with the blue fine scotch brite belt. The wheel is a 3/4"

My wife Lisa is a huge Tenn womens basketball fan..She loves bright orange.(Though no team comes before the Wildcats) So this last go around she ordered some blaze orange G10 and some blaze orange G10 tiger stripe...I think it will lopk good on some hunters..
