Scalping in the news

Very weird! Poor thing. Guess it's a wig for the rest of her life now? Sounds extremely painful too.

Hopefully, that club thing won´t become a tradition.
On the other hand, I could be the first internet dealer on "Real Tatuian Fighting Clubs"! I could even make some "enchanted" clubs to offer on Ebay!

How much?

Both plan and Enchanted ??

most japanese know what they know about america from their parents. basically, they seem to carry a snapshot of america from 1945 to 1952 ( the 7 years of occupation and pacification)

Japanese KNOW that Americans:

are crazy about baseball
shoot children who walk on your property
are in constant shootouts with the police
blah blah blah

I saw one japanese guy in Tokyo station, he was dressed up like the marlboro man!
he had the lightly scuffed boots, the jeans, the big belt buckle, the hat , the shirt, the vest, he even had saddlebags over his shoulder.
(I bet he spent a grand on that costume)

He saw me coming the other way and put his head down and hurried on by.
I laughed long and hard, oh man that was a good day.

Still, the funniest day I was at the store and saw a car parked outside. The car had stickers on it that said "Kru Krux Kran"
They had a car club/ social club/ whatever and called themselves the kru krux kran.
i laughed until i wet myself.

That's hillarious, DJ! Man I love cultural ignorance. Of course, we're probably about as guilty in our own special way.

But, back on thread, this is twisted. I read it and did about a triple-take. Frickin' nuts! I wouldn't even know how to punish something like this if I were a prosecutor!

Sounds like something was missing from the story if there were "definitely sexual overtones" to the crime. Either that or someone is making a big leap. Regardless, it's pretty sadistic to tie somebody up and cut them up. Doubt I'd have the stomach for it (actually, I hope I wouldn't have the stomach for it).

That Dahle broad could use a lesson in "respect" too. I hope she ends up in a cell with Gunda, the 300 lb bearded truck driver from [former] east Germany, as Gunda's b|tch. Heck, entire cellblock's b|tch :grumpy:

I have to wonder if she knew how bad it would be. I wonder what kind of knife she used, scalping is no easy feat I would imagine.
You wonder if she thought would just hurt and the hair would come back?
It sounds like she nearly killed her.
An infection close to the brain is a serious thing no matter how small...

Just reading between the lines I would bet Mohawk girl had something going with the scalpers significant other (lack of respect)
I wonder if hair transplants would work
It would be a great commercial for the hair club .

I wonder... do we (USA) just about outdo everyone when it comes to violence? Not cruelty or torture, but violence. We seem to get associated with it a lot. I'm not making a statement, I'm just pondering out loud. I guess there are more violent places, eastern europe maybe, middle east. Well, maybe middle east takes the prize for violence. Still, we seem to be the best at one upping violence if we have to.

Not trying to start a flame thread here, just thinking...

We don't hide our evil side. or mistakes. While it makes us ill, we show what we are to the world, and through our broadcasting systems we tend to show the worst of what we are. Our broadcasting companies focuses on what will make them money; and that is what we show. The Columbines, the Abu Ghrab's, the Andersonvilles.

You don't think Saddam allowed shows probing into his 'accomplishments' do you?

The French talk about Devil's Island or their colonial excesses?

Germans Talk much about WWII and the extermination camps?

Japanese have games shows about the Rape of Nanking, or the Phillipines death march?

There are many that have more education that I running around these forums, but thats my opinion. What nation besides the US would have coined the phrase "Peace through superior Firepower"? "Mutually Assured Destruction?" What other nations look at the world through realistic eyes to see what is coming? I think Chamberlain certainly was wearing his rose colored glasses don't you?

Let me add this, I re read what I posted, to me it sounds angry, but that wasn't my intent. I do get tired of hearing how we are violent, and we are, but I don't think more so than any other culture. Perhaps we aren't as wells socialized as a Switzerland or a Norway, but I dont' think we are more inherently evil.

If I could I'd completely delete this reply, but it's already out there, I do reserve the right to think about it and add a clarification though. I don't like to extensively edit out my statements.

Great post.

The truth will out, blame or fame.

Don't get me started on the media.... But on America I hope we all agree.

All people, all countries, all of anything- contain flaws.

But this is the greatest country that is. It starts and ends right there.

I am afraid that there are places much worse then we can even think about or even want to imagine in the world Dave. People think that we should know better (which we should) and when a terrible story makes the news for a week then it makes it seem even worse then it is.

some good posts here. Thanks for letting me think out loud and getting so much keen insight in return.

45-70, thanks for the reality check reminders. I've forgotten a lot of my history.

I didn't mean about violence in a negative way. I realize I'm getting a little strange here, but it reminds me of something the Dalai Lama said. He was talking about (paraphrasing from memory, it's been a while since I've seen him), that there was an advantage to the US being powerful, and that he didn't think it would be a good idea, even if it was possible, for the US to "disarm". Because we were a balancing factor in the world! Without the US to keep others in check, certain other countries would have no deterrent to invading other countries.

45-70 is correct. The violence is everywhere all the time. Even the Soviets had that problem. The difference IS the government's degree of transparency and the media's ability and willingness to report it.
Japanese police have clearly written guidelines on when they should and should not investigate crime and how to cover up any embarassing crimes for the sake of the nation.

In order to have violence and crime, someone has to report it.

Regarding 45-70 last post: no country is perfect and while there certainly are more less violent places than the US, it is far from bein even too up on the scale, but Americans have to deal with the media, with its good and bad sides, and it will aways make things look bigger than they are.
And regarding the clubs, sorry, Sir, we are out of the Enchanted variation, but this is your lucky day and you can get the plain one for only US$ 999,95!

We'll I guess I'll stick with Mora's, kuk's and 'hawks.

I'm still rethinking about my previous post (I got a couple nice comments too, please leave me your name, for good or ill I want to know).

Mr. Campos, you have a lot of insight. Were you born and raised in Brazil? I'm glad not everyone hates us.

I always think of the French when the subject is bad stuff. They gave their own citizens HIV tainted blood- and they knew the blood pool was contaminated. They adopted a very moralistic pose regarding our behavior with Iraq, while they were taking millions in bribes and kickbacks in the Food for Oil.

I don't actually think the French are worse than anyonelse, but there seems to be a bigger gap between what they say and what they do than some other nations. I suspect the moral pose is fostered and encouraged by their own government to their citizens.
I'd be curious if the average frenchman really thinks his govt is swell.
