Scam Warning - Troops as bait

Brother, do you not keep record of your sales?... or was this guy claiming to have bought it through a dealer/second hand type thing? If it was the latter, I would say that any warranty issue should start by you getting the knife back. If someone has bought a knife directly from me and I have record of it, I take them for their word and bypass the anti-scam protocol. I have never had someone break that trust. A few folks have dragged out payment on subsequent orders but it always works out well. Some have had me sweating, though.

The only bad happenings I have experienced is with shipments to Germany. I've been burned twice by customs and will no longer ship there.

Rick

Yes. I have records of the knives. He claimed to have gotten it from a dealer. I should have waited, of course. I felt a frisson when I was packing the box, but sent it anyway not believing that someone would use that particular lie.

Well, it takes all kinds of honest and dishonest people to make this crazy world go round. I have to agree with what L.A. Said regarding the compliment. You have impressed me in a major way with the Bushfinger. Can't wait to get the Bocote EDC in hand. I may take some a lil time to pay on occasion but, it is my duty to follow through if at all possible. Just be honest, We are all on our honor here.. To use a service member as a ploy is very low, a scam is a scam but, that is bad.

Yeah, that would have thrown my anti-scam off a bit, too. Your automatic reaction is to jump at helping out troops... it's a shame some people see opportunity in that. I'm glad you caught the SOB.

Rick

Andy, I for one know how generous you are and am saddened and apalled at you being used this way. Thank you for keeping us posted and for helping others to avoid this tragedy.

Sorry to hear about this, Andy. I know you got the knife back, but I understand why you still feel burned. Every time something like this happens it weakens your faith in humanity just a little bit, and unfortunately it can take a lot to restore that faith:( Try not to let it get you down.

You do make great looking knives, by the way:D

Unfortunately there are scumbags who will play on the goodness of others. Using members of the Armed Forces as the means to pull of this scam is nothing short of appalling. I get very irate when things like this happen. I wonder if there is something that can still be done. He solicited for a fraudulent purpose. Anyhow I hope he gets his sooner rather than later.

Andy,
I know you got scamed. The good thing is that you took the high road. Don't look at it as a scam but, as a test of character. You PASSED. Accept it for what is was and take pride in the way you handled it. But if you happen to be in his area stop and beat the crap out of him for us all.

The thing is that the knife community has always felt like a safe home to me. Still, I don't go sending knives before payment to any but a select few. It was just shocking to get burned using our military. I jump through whatever hoops necessary for our soldiers. Next time I'll do my usual, wait for the knife to return, then ship to the APO address, and add a few cups, bowls, and skin and hair care products to the box. Thats what I get asked for most. The climate there is hell on skin, and lotion is my most requested item from soldiers.

Andy thats a great thing to do for the service people.. You have to protect yourself and your work as well as stand behind it. I'm sure they appreciate the extra touch, Classy Move My Friend.

As a Soldier this really pi$$es me off!

I'll second this.

The Stolen Valor Act makes such acts a Federal crime. If you have an address it might be worth your time to have a friendly attorney send a letter advising him of this and letting him know you are contemplating such a lawsuit.

Me, I'm a little more likely to take it personally, and will cause the miscreant as much pain as possible even to the point of letting every Veterans organization, social website, and press contact I have know all the particulars and the individuals personal information.

Kudos to both of you for supporting our troops in this manner. Darned shame there was a scam but I am so glad to see your kind of patriotism and the respect shown to those serving and those that have served.

All of my customers are important to me and I go out of my way to make sure each and everyone has a satisfying experience when ordering and purchasing one of my knives. Military personal get priority when they need a knife. I do push their order to the front because most have a deployment deadline to meet. Making knives for our men and women in harms way is extremely rewarding for me. If it wasn't for them none of us would be enjoying the freedom to do what we enjoy doing in this country.
I have the utmost respect for our military and feel honored to equip them with one of my blades.
I'm so pissed at what this guy did I could spit nails. Total bullshit and he should be punished for this.
Andy and I are still discussing this situation.
Scott

I have been hit with that one a couple of times. I have been taken twice and caught it twice. I think that is pretty good!

I guess I am a slow learner, but we also have stopped the practice after be ing hit one too many times.
