Hello BF,

So for the first time in years Ive been had! Commented on a sales post recently that I would be "in". The scammer I guess went through my profile and checked to see if I ever had posted my email address. I did, back in 2019!

They emailed me directly pretending to be the seller stating the blade was mine and to go ahead and send him $$ via PP FF like in most cases these days. I did not wait for a message through Bladeforums and figured it was all good. It was not!

On the brighter side, it wasnt a too much $$$ and could have been worst. So , I recommend removing your email address from public view or possibly just exchange messages on here. I rushed and didnt do my due dilligence and it bit me.

These are the 2 emails associated with this scam. 1 was the actual sender and the other was the PP email they wanted me to send funds too. good luck everybody, stay safe out there!!

**Also, I know I am pretty much SOL out of my $$ in Paypal. If anyone has anyone advice on how I can maybe maybe recoup please feel free to message me

thanks
Mo

You can try to goto your credit card and have them do a charge back. Just keep in mind if you do this too many times and it gets the notice of PP they might decide to sever the relationship.

appreciate it, I will try that. I know with PP FF I am mostly SOL. thank you!

Get a Gold Membership and only deal with Sales via the BladeForums Conversation Feature
Not great to hear that the same person has gotten others but unfortunately this is the way. Only deal with private messages on BF. Also, remove your email address from any posts or comments. The direct email from the scammer had the real sellers profile name on their email tag which is another reason they got me.

this deweymike email address just did the same thing to me... Managed to catch it before sending funds, the writing style was off...

It's also not a panacea. Paying members with access to PMs can be scammed as well. But it cuts down the probability exponentially. (Currently.)

Try not to post in the sale thread. Directly pm the seller. Only use pm feature of bf and never trust email.

Yes - this is the most effective solution. Yet many people keep barking at the payment methods like PPFF.
It's effective against the "fake invoice email" scam

Nothing prevents a scammer from paying his $40, getting a membership, and just doing the ol' you $$$ and he sends nothing scam.

That's why PPFF is a bad idea (among other reasons already fully enumerated in other threads).
