People don’t be a hardhead like me and send payments via friends and family.
Scammed for $600
looks like jackthablade was involved according to google.

We need a "Scammed and Paid F&F master thread". But people will still think they won't personally get burned.

As a gold member, why would you respond to such an email?

Where did you get the jackthablade info? I googled the PayPal name and didn't see it.

Also - your email is posted on jjsmith's profile (there could be more places, I didn't do a full search)

I also just got scammed by Floyd Linder using the email address of eusebiolyle@gmail.com ........... he emailed me directly but how did he get my email address?

Took me literally 15 seconds to find your email, you have GOT to do a better job of cleaning up your public viewable Contact info.

Perhaps only deal with paying members who have direct Private Messaging that is only visible to you and that paying member once a deal has been struck.

Good luck to you and everyone else.

Okay, I give, how, or where, did you find my public viewable Contact info? If I knew then maybe i could do as you suggest and "do a better job of cleaning up".

You have posted 89 times on this website, anyone can go to your profile and look through all your posts.

I get what you are saying, I will be more careful in the future and not publicly post my email address.

Just type your own email address in the search bar. You will find any and all posts and can delete them 👍

I simply typed in your publicly posted post history under your user name max22.

Or even as simple as going under your profile and clicking on the 89 posts you have created. It brings me to each post and everything you ever typed.

I’m sorry, but it’s publicly viewable.

Just go back and edit it out.

Only a Super Mod can edit a locked thread by someone else, just incase you come across one that’s locked by another member, or if it’s simply quoted by another member in a post anywhere in that unlocked thread other than originally posted by yourself.

You yourself can edit ANY locked thread that is locked by yourself.

Please don’t think we are coming down hard on you, we aren’t. We are the good guys, we are simply trying to help you and the rest of the good members here.

The Mods are extremely busy with this exact same problem multiple times a day, and we are just passing our knowledge along to you (and the others who may read this too) 🍻

I am a gold member but fairly new here. The scammer(s) is/are fairly crafty. The scammers become members and copy the Blade Forums header from emails/notifications received from members/moderators and somehow make it the heading of the initial email they send to their prey so it looks as though you are being notified from the legit Blade Forums member that listed the item for sale. They then start communicating via personal account instead of BF Messaging. They ALWAYS request PPFF payment because they know the buyer has no protection and that so many sellers say they only accept that sort of payment from PayPal. They are pretty sly and for those of us not that techy - it's very easy to be fooled. Chances are if you weren't aware these scams were happening before first contact with a scammer - there is a good possibility you could be fooled too. Those of US that have been scammed are bringing this to light to benefit members ... not to be critiqued. As long as people continue to make PPFF payments and DO NOT KNOW who they are sending money to - they make those payments at risk. I lost $412 including PP fees and though I am pissed about my loss - others have lost so much more and I feel sympathy for them. This is a great forum with 99.99% of the members being honest and we've gotten use to it and let our guards down. The .01% of the fucking scammers have capitalized on it. There have been thousands of dollars lost that people have reported - god only knows how many more will fall victim. There is a reason the moderators say not to use PPFF. Even though I have made approx $2500 worth of PPFF transactions since I joined BF in Feb 2024 with honest members - I learned my lesson and have had to pass on several knifes I WANTED because the seller would not accept PPGS. If sellers would just add 5% to their selling price and allow PPGS payment - all would be protected.

LONG STORY SHORT - if people continue to use PPFF to sellers they DO NOT KNOW ... their day will probably come and be able to join the "I Got F'ed Fraternity" too.

The same thing happened to me on Saturday with the email address of the scammer being jackthablade and the paypal account name was Timothy Hollman. The bladeforum solicitation was under the user name of jlester76. The scammer signed one response to me as Jeff. Stay clear. I am finished with PayPal FF.

Thank you gentlemen I have learned my lesson about being so easily taken.
My thanks to GCBC FOR THE INFO to get my refund. Much appreciated!

"Thank you so much for the email. Would you be so kind as to also post in the thread now that we have corresponded by email so that I know it is actually the Bladeforums member I am corresponding with? Given the heightened scamming going on lately I am sure you understand and have no problem doing this for my peace of mind. Thanks!"

Just one of a few possible options in similar circumstances.

$10 a year affords members messaging rights. If you buy 1 or 2 knives a year here, it’s worth the price for private messages alone. I understand the rush and excitement of getting a deal but some due diligence is always necessary.

It’s been stated before but if your email is posted on the forum, you’re a mark. I have empathy for the scammed and hope people will be a bit more cautious when sharing info or sending a stranger hundreds of dollars.

Sadly, I don’t think enough people actually scroll the forums. e.g. how many people started a thread in tech support about exceeding the attachment limit? The forum is more than pictures and a marketplace.

My point was, that as a paid member, he has private messaging capabilities. Since it appears some people are not aware, THERE IS NO BLADEFORUMS EMAIL SYSTEM. If you didn't give your email to the seller, they can't email you. (Well , they could search your posts to see if you posted...but - hint - they aren't going to. For the registered members that are likely to have to use emails, don't be in such a rush to send payment - make sure you know that it's the right person.
