In this thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=502833 I'd mentioned converting a couple of Tops knives over to a Scandinavian type of edge. The Mohawk Hunter I wanted was out of stock, as was the UTE. So, I wound up with a Little Bro.

I made it home from Prudhoe Sunday, and did my mod this morning.

I'm not sure if it's cause I haven't tinkered around with knifemaking in awhile, or just plain stubbornness, but the knife was being extremely difficult to put a Scandi edge on. After 20 minutes or so of sanding and grinding on it to no avail I came into the house, had a cup of coffee and re-thunk my plan.

The scandi-edge plan was scrapped in favor of the convex edge, which was much easier with this particular knife.

As this knife came, it was pretty damn unimpressive to me. It would have been easier to remove what scant edge it had and make it into a training knife than it was to put a decent edge on. It's no secret that Tops makes thier knives hell bent for stout above all else, but this thing was ridiculous- it barely qualified as a knife as far as I was concerned!

a total of one hour later, and it might become my EDC. The edge cuts and whittles tiny chips well, does above average in the kitchen on meat and veggies, amd has the kind of hair poppin' edge we all love. It slices notebook paper and packing peanuts cleanly. I accidentally dropped it point first into my concrete floor with no damage. If the knife has been weakened by the regrind, it's not by much, and well worth the gain in practical utility.

Unless you have a decent belt sander or alot of patience, I wouldn't recommend one of these critters. But if you do have either you may find yourself very pleasantly impressed. I'll try to get some pics up later this evening.

Here's the pic on the company website:

This topic is worthless without pics! (please give some for my difficulty visualizing it)

I hear you on getting knives that are pretty much unacceptable when delivered. That's incredibly frustrating, it happened to me not long ago and had to send it to a knowledgeable gentleman with a belt sander. Turned out great, but was worthless junk before that alteration.

I'm really glad that it worked out for you. Other TOPS designs that I've handled mirrored your thoughts, just too thick in the wrong places to cut worth a darn. I like the measurements on that blade other than that factor.

Pics would definitely be cool!
