Scar Blades

The web-site does not mention the names of the owners. Where did they get their 22 years combined experience?

How long have they been in business? All the web-site mentions is their combined experience. I am not a fan of powder coating. How well does theirs hold up to use?

It seems like he told me he had personally been making knifes for something like 10 years, but that was a couple years ago when i had first spoke to him - and i could be a little off on that number.

The powder coating seems to be working just fine - my Liberator is what i use to cut down large branches or tree trunks when i'm prepping my tree stand for bow hunting season, and also my working knife while camping - so its been through alot of abuse. There are some scuff marks on the sides of the blade but nothing major. I know that with their warranty, if the blade gets to dinged up you can send it back to them and they will re-powder coat the blade for free, but i think you have to pay the freight. I live close enough to them that just dropped the knife off at his shop - but he just gave me a new one instead of making me wait for him to powder coat my old one. The last time i spoke with the owner he said they had started using CeraKoat on their custom designs - they don't have it on their website yet as an option but i bet you could request it.

out of curiosity, What type of knife coating do you prefer?

I prefer none at all. The only type of coating that I've seen stand up to heavy use is a PVD coating. Spartan Blade's Tungsten DLC and Zirconium Nitride are an example.

not sure where / when he got started i've never asked him, I know his brother is the other half of the equation - he is the one that molds the kydex sheaths for all the knives.

Wow, i've heard of using ceramic coating before but never head of PVD, looks expensive! Not to mention you have to have a titanium blade to get it to work. Do you own any blades with this coating?

I not here to promote any agenda, but all the information is on the web-site which is easy enough to check out. No it's not a titanium blade.

I'd be surprised if these Scar Blades aren't made by Tops just down the road in Idaho Falls. The description implies they might be induction hardened at the edge like Tops.

I recently purchased the Grizzly. I really like this little knife, if it can be called little. It came fairly sharp but took an amazing edge and holds it fairly well. I think I paid $70 including shipping from Knifeworks. I would buy another blade from them, especially the Hawkeye. I think it has been a great knife for what I had paid for it.
