Puma Bundeswehr (6379) Knife. These were produced by Puma in the early 1980s in competition for a German military contract. Puma produced a small but unknown quantity and submitted samples to the German equipment board for evaluation. Sadly, they did not win the contract (it is assumed price was the reason) and the remaining stock Puma had on hand were forbidden to be sold commercially in Europe under German law. However, Gutman in New York could import them in North America, so Puma inset their iconic commercial gold medallion to the handle of each knife and sent them off to Gutman, who listed them in their catalog. They were quickly sold out and not listed in the next printing of the catalog. This example, without the Puma gold medallion inset is one of the very few surviving evaluation samples sent to the German equipment board. Priced to move at $300 (includes delivery CONUS).
