In the past, the SMKW website didn't specify steel type on the Taylor Schrades, so I called SMKW last summer and asked. According to SMKW, all of the Taylor Brands (imported) Schrades are 440C stainless. I assume that the new imported Sharpfinger is 440C, or at least that's what they (Taylor Brands or SMKW) will tell you if you were to ask.

Back in the 1980's, a trapper friend of our family in Montana loved his Sharpfinger. His only complaint was that he'd broken the tip on the first two he owned (he admitted this was through his own carelessness) and SchradeUSA had replaced one for him. He taught me a ton about outdoor living, trapping, and skinning, and most of what he taught me involved that knife.
He wore through one (a small one) about every 3-4 years. I always wanted a large Sharpfinger, but I bought a Buck 119 when the store I went to didn't have the Schrade. Always loved the Buck, but the Sharpfinger still has a sentimental place in my heart.
thx - cpr
