School me on Boker quality

I've got a Boker Hybrid Copperhead and it's an excellent knife. Great fit and finish, centered blades, and RAZOR sharp.
One of my favorite work knives.
I don't care if the parts are made in China, mine is a very well-made knife.
I have some knives I've paid much more for, and are nowhere near as good as this knife of mine.

I have a few of the completely made in Germany Tree Bokers and they are excellent! Here is the congress that I have(not my picture b/c I am at work) which has beer barrel covers and c75 carbon steel blades that take a nice keen edge:

The fit and finish is very good and the blades even came sharp!

Yep, that the "Real McCoy".

My next purchase will be a "new" Boker Barlow with 440C steel blades. Yes, this is the same steel that Buck used for their fixed blade, as well as their Folding Hunter until 1981. This dog will hunt and perform daily cutting tasks as if there's no tomorrow. For no more than $30.00 I'll have a knife that is a "workhorse".

What's not to like?

I’m sorry; you want info on slip joint and medium Stockman Bokers.
We were hurrying to start dinner and a movie and then I had to get an Adobe Flash player update so I could get these two new photos up loaded/posted so I only had time to slip in a general comment on Boker quality.

Sooooooo
Stockmans . . . .
I ordered the green bone Boker stockman and got the stag. Not the fault of Boker obviously.
I was packing up the stag to send back when it hit me . . . what the hell am I doing . . . I had just received a knife worth (back a couple years ago) $100 plus for like $80 . . . hmmmmmmm
I hadn’t really thought about stag at that point . . .
do I like stag ? ? ? ?
Welllllllll . . . yah . . . I guess . . . hmmmmmm . . . YES it is pretty cool in a classic old fashioned way.
OK
do I want to keep this stag knife ? You mean I could ?
Well YAH. Hmmmmmm.
Means I will have to buy another green bone one.
Oh darn I have to buy another knife that I like.
THAT works for me.
So
I ordered (from a more competent vendor) and got a green bone Boker.
Now the low down :
The stag is nice in every way : good blade/spring action, sharp, well made over all, great knife.

The green bone : wellllllll . . . the springs are way too tight, can’t open if I just washed my hands/finger nails too soft, when I close it anyone near by looks to see what just happened. Other than that; blades sharp, very beautiful to behold, very pleased with the look and the jigging on the handle is SOOOO nicely done; fascinating to look at . . . more like a feather than a bunch of gouged marks . . . I don’t know how to describe it other than that.

Now the really bad :
I ordered a smooth bone medium Stockman in red bone. A disastrous purchase ! The color of the bone was way weaker than portrayed in the factory photos, the blades were dull the large blade was not even any kind of edge just a strip of metal, blade springs almost non effective / no walk or talk at all just meh. I think there were one or two other issues with the knife. it was packed back up and sent back the next day without hesitation. I was super disappointed because I was whining and howling for that really rich red smooth boned model.

So there you have a few stockmans for your consideration.

As far as comparing them to Case . . . case has disappointed me once with a handle color but over all Case is head and shoulders above Boker in fit, finish and consistency. Boker can be better but often can be worse.

PS: note the thickness of the stag handles. I really got my moneys worth there ! The stag scales are a good hand full. Thank you Boker !

Post with modern knives in it moved to the Boker thread in General.

I'll wait until June to buy my Boker Barlow. It will be a great knife. The 440C steel blade will be worth the money!

The Boker Barlow in 440C looks nice. Give us a review once you have it. Are there more handle material options?

Mike:

I believe that the option shown is the only one available. There are some modifiers that would be more than happy to satisfy your desires. Personally, I like it just the way it is. You know, I'm sucker for a "classic" knife such as the Boker Barlow. The steel is just fine, and the price isn't in the stratosphere either. What's nice about this particular knife is the "down to earth" aspect of the Barlow. It's just an old-fashioned hard-working knife. This is how a good working knife should be. No-nonsense, great edge holding ability and versatility.

What could be better than that?
