Schrade 152OT Sharpfinger

I've been seeing a few Sharpfingers with 502SC blades with OT stock Delrin handles and now 158OT with stock Delrin sawcut handles and 518SC tang. I do remember the order to finish out anything that could be finished with in-stock parts between the July closing and the October auction, so this really shouldn't be surprising. It can be confusing though. Especially so when packaging and bling is "bastardized" to boot.

So I guess, aside from trying to determine what exactly is correct for original production, we each have to decide whether or not to "restore" any such knives/assemblies to their correct configuation, or leave them as found. There are so many possibilities for mismatches as the knives change hands multiple times, not even counting end of days assemblies. Heck, I have a small box of shields that could be used to create any number of "Frankenfingers". And hat pins, money clips etc.

Again, I very much appreciate you guys help with figuring this stuff out.

Bob and Codger,
The 2002-2003 Classics discussion does not belong on this Sharpfinger page.
The Framed Classics Displays did not come with a Hat pins. I will start a new discussion on the knives in question, when I have all 25 knives in my hand at the same time.
I will then, and only then, post photos and original Schrade documented information on the knives in question; if need be, I will then send the Sharpfinger to Codger.
History has always been recorded poorly, and I believe a discussion should only have one winner; Knowledge.

Looking forward to it.

Sadly, I'm grossly behind in in taking photos of my own collection. :(

No need to send me the knife Ken. Unless you are just feeling uncommonly generous. ;) I believe the origin of this one has been settled to my satisfaction at least. As you know, I am always on the lookout for limited edition and SFO sharpfingers. Once in a blue moon an appearance and my funds coincide. But even when they don't, it is fun chasing down the details on them. And even better when interested friends help with the legwork.

I have always been a fan of Sharpfinger knives and have about 4 or 5. They are my favorite design and I think the most overall useful hunting knife ever built. I'd like to start collecting them as a hobby. Where is the best place for a novice to start looking for them for sale?

Welcome to the forum EEM3! Well, the world's biggest narketplace for knives, eBay would be a good start. But they can still be occasionally found in pawn shops, out of the way hardware stores and flea markets. Even gun shows. It helps to be aware of the copies being made by other knife makers, most of which bear their own unique markings, and of course those made in China by the new owner of the Schrade trademarks, Taylor Brands LLC. I have a few of the copies made by U.S. makers and they aren't bad. But they aren't Schrades. Good luck on the hunt! And show us some pictures of your knives!

Here is another one, the seller says it is from a set of five patterns in a display. Anyone recognize it?

Codger asked a question:
In trying to answer this question in this forum, someone was said to be “wrong” and someone “right”. There should be no right or wrong in a Forum.

I will now answer Codgers question, after having more than 25 of these knives in my hands.
The Sharpfinger in question is part of a Special set of five knives; it has a Brown/Honey coloured bone handle, that Schrade used on the 2002-2003 Duck knives.
The other four knives are the same in every way, as the 2002-2003 Schrade Classics; with the exception of the blade etch and the special “Schrade"shield.
All five knives are stamped the same as the Classics, “Schrade+ U.S.A. LTD".

Schrade used the Classics again in 2004; with a different shield again, and called them the “Cigar Box Classics”.
The 2002-2003 Schrade price list, show the “Old Timer Sharpfinger with carbon steel”.

I hope this has answered the question... Ken

This is my first post so I will say hello. I found this forum looking for info on some knives I have, a Schrade Sharpfinger among them. Just floored by the number of versions it was offered in. I am not a collector and all my knives are in used condition but to contribute a little to the site I will post some photos of my Sharpfinger as it may help others. Mine is the Peterson Publishing promo version got with a subscription to Guns and Ammo. It came with a second version sheath.

Great website and thanks for the info. Nothing special about my knives just Uncle Henry Sharpfingers. Like BobbyH I am not an offical collector and most of mine are used. I do have an old one with some blade staining. Has anyone ever heard of someone sanding the blade of a sharpfinger to get these out? Will it mirror shine or just dull? Again this one is used and I just want to clean it up.

EEM3

If it is just stains you could try some metal polish like Flitz or Mothers seems to work on my straight razors.

Bob

Bob...Well I have to admit its not just stains. I got most of the stains out already, I used mothers wheel polish as you suggested and some bar keepers. I was "kinda sorta" wanting to try to "mirror" polish a sharpfinger just cuz I have never see one done and thought it would be cool. That being said and having no clue how exactly to do it, besides a few youtube videos. Got sandpaper, elbow grease and time, just wanting to know if it's possible to hand sand a sharpfingers steel to a "kind sorta" polished state. Just a newbie who needs some sort of project that does not include yard work for the summer!

You might ask the question in the tinker and embelisher's forum here. Those guys know this stuff.

Here is my meager Uncle Henry collection. Top one is new unsharpened with box. Second is new unsharpened. Third is my hunting knife. Fourth is my back up hunting knife, an ebay find that had blade stains that I hand polished out. Can't remember purchase dates on the top 3, but I did notice differences in the blades between the top two and the bottom two.

The Ducks Unlimted 152UH that is in with the folding blade? How much would be a reasonable price to pay for just the 152UH knife and sheath?

One more for my collection.

Nice! I have the Sharpfinger (152BEM) but not the others or the display. These birdseye maple covered knives were not made in great quantity due to the closing, and are not often seen on the market today.
