I'm considering bidding on a Schrade 1940t in ebay. How do I tell what kind of steel it is (I'm looking for 1095)? How do I tell if it's made in the US?
The USA Schrades will have on the tang SCHRADE 194OT USA. Early ones the markings would be on Three lines and later the markings were on Two lines.
SCHRADE
194OT
USA
SCHRADE
USA 194OT
The earlier stamp would probably be 1095, the later maybe Stainless. It's hard to tell though as Schrade pushed Stainless blades through without warning to the public to see how they would be accepted.
I think this happened during the early eighties.
KmI don't recall specifically which steel they used on it, but most of the OT line was carbon steel. Schrade signified stainless with a "SCHRADE+" on the tang. And if its made in the USA, it will be stamped so on the tang. Nice knife.
Yup. I always look for the plus. Their lockbacks are stainless, and they are still good steel. I apologize for not recalling the model #. They are locked in the safe, and do not want to wake up my wife. That would be bad.
The 194OT is a linerlock. It will not have a + marked stainless steel blade. It will be marked SCHRADE / U.S.A. 194OT. Like Rusty mentioned it, will be on a two line or a three line stamp.
If it is not USA made, it will simply say SCHRADE on the front of the blade, nothing else.
