I bought this schrade on a online auction (not ebay) for $65 including shipping and was wanting to know about it,when was it made,how many were made this one has 034 on bolster and did i pay to much. Its in new conditition no papers or box. I'm apparently not smart enough to get pics to work,help

A tip on posting photos. At the photobucket website put your cursor on the picture simply copy the IMG Code and paste it into your forum topic.

Sure looks like real stag, not the imitation "staglon."

Ok, can't copy anything since internet's still down, but i have here a New Item Listing dated April 5, 1993 for the 5OTES, bound for Europe.

5OT pattern with stag handles
Blade etch 440 Stainless
Serialized (starting with 0011)

Black varnish box with gold imprinting

Estimated quantity- 300

Found a order for SMKW 5OT bone with the 440 stamp.
They also did a NYK 5OT in bone.
No quantities yet.
 
It is interesting that the “440 STAINLESS” etch is on the blade and the tang stamp has the SCHRADE+ tang stamp.
I guess if anyone had any doubts as to the composition of Schrade+ steel that pretty well settles the issue.

Well, in that particular time period it does. They used other steels and also called them "Schrade+".
 
There are 4 different types of "440 STAINLESS" too with different amounts of carbon and different properties as a result (440A, 440B, 440C, 440F). I've never seen a knife which was made from 440F but I have certainly seen all of the other three used.

I think Schrade mainly used 440A but I have a suspicion that one 1980's UH167 I used to have was 440C because of the way it sharpened and held an edge but don't quote me on this.

Hey folks, figured I'd post up the paperwork now that I'm back on-line. Along with the 5OT, there was also a PH1 and PH2 that went with this order, also in stag (although the "bone" that's penciled in makes me wonder if it was to be bone stag). There was also in the order (not copied) a micarta Ph1 and PH2 as well. Each knife was in an edition of 300 pieces:
