Schrade 51OT

I have been using Rough Rider and Steel Warrior folders for about 4 years now as well as Schrade USA knives for many years.
The blade steel on these 2 import brands is great. They edge hold extremely well and are easy to resharpen to shaving sharpness again. In a Rough Rider thread i did a post with pics showing the complete field dressing of a deer and the RR blade was still shaving sharp at the end.
I have never used a Schrade import knife but one cannot assume the steel behaves poorly just because it's made in China.
Using a variety of the import Schrade branded knives for a range of cutting tasks over a few months time period is the only way to know.

The Old Timers were generally 1095 carbon steel (similar stainless models were marketed under the Uncle Henry brand). But... there were some stainless Old Timer models, and some carbon models that transitioned to stainless over time.

I don't recall off-hand what stainless steel type was used by common Schrades like the Imperial and Uncle Henry lines, or some Old Timers, but it wasn't anything special. Wouldn't surprise me if some modern low-cost imports are actually made with superior materials.

Note to self...do not roll the calipers down too tight as they will make little scratch marks on our blades!
