A year or two ago I posted about being at a small hardware store and finding 5-6 old Schrades still in their case. I bought all of them. I got 2 Old Timer 89OT's out of the deal. The 1095 steel was kinda a challenge because the blades were not really sharp. I could get it good, but not like I wanted it. I went to a wild game dinner at a local church last night knowing that a local knife sharpener would probably be there. Sure enough...He got the 89OT awesome. I carried it in a sheath to work today.
I haven't given up on my CV yellerhandles. I have it in my pocket, but that 1095 Schrade steel is some amazing stuff.

:thumbup:Showin that SCHRADAHOLIC love;) 1095 done by Schrade don't get much better!!!

Schrade steel was a confidence builder for me in my first sharpening attempts. I could get my old timer beater really shaving sharp, with a cheap bench stone. It was just enough smack to get me hooked on a "scary sharp" sharpening ability quest. :p There was a smile when the pain came. They should call it Heroin steel.:D

UM... I'm not seeing any pictures :D

I don't know what they did with their 1095, but they did it right..
I always thought it was just in my mind, but many others have confirmed the same thing....

Hmmm, looks like I'm going to have to carry my 89OT or Schrade Walden 881 this week.
Nice knives, Hal! :thumbup::cool:

Thawk...

WOW!..

Thanks for this fix... I needed that!

Coincidentally this old Schrade [over] Walden [over] N.Y.USA model #285 UH Trapper was in my pocket for the last week or perhaps even a little more and as much cutting as I'v asked the old Gal to do, she still stays hair pop'n sharp... The truth is I just mostly dry strope this ole Gal and she pretty much stays razor sharp!

It was an old, old LEO friends gift to me I received after he passed on, many years ago. I love her and use her as I remember the love I have for him!. One of the all time great guys you'd ever want to know. A Vet from WWII as well.

Yes, this is the 1095 the rest should be measured by..

Sorry for the lousy pics.. I wanted to show the lost and/or found individual knife number inside the liners pic in photo's # 2... If you look you can just make the number out.. And Yes, in case some of you did not know, Schrade would actually Guarantee these knives against loss at one time..

..And photo #3 the file worked liners workmanship.

Just so you know, if I was'nt a Buck nut, I would be here with you guys. I am not admitting to any past or future straying off the path. The little 120 and the old tang stockman on the shelf are just my good friends......300Bucks

thawk - NICE collection there. All you need is a nice 8OT to complete it.

That's okay. We know the truth. We all have those little secrets we hope no one finds out. But we're knife knuts. We know anyway. ;)

Embrace the carbon. You know you want to. :)

thx - cpr

Embrace the carbon, I like that. Here is my terrible picture. I have a new camera, and I suck with this one as much as I did the last one. I am going to rehandle the fixed blade with some ebony most likely. I bought it beat up, but it is great for camping.

Its been a week and the 1095 is still ready to go.

"Embrace the carbon" now that is a great saying. Wish I'd some up with that one.

Actually...

:)

Showoff. :p

All of those have a matchstrike nailnick - interesting. I have a standard 8OT with a regular nailnick, and an 8OT made for Primble/Belknap Hardware with the match strike. Was there a time frame for those match strike type, or was it random?

How differently does the knife with 'KON-KAV' on the blade cut, compared to the others? I've never seen a Schrade 8OT-type with a grind like that. (Sabre grind?)

This is evolving into a way cool thread.

thx - cpr

The early 8OT were all made with the matchstrike nick. I've never seen a Schrade Walden 8OT without one. The Schrade Walden 8OT started in 1959 with bone handles (rare). The bone was first year only, and switched to Delrin. Schrade Walden stamps ended in 1973. A few Schrade NY stamped 8OT will have the matchstrike nicks, like the first one in that pic. So about 1959 to 1974 would be my guess for 8OT with the matchstrike.

Yes the KON KAV clip blade on the 880 is sabre ground on both sides. Very heavy blade.

BTW, the yellow handled birdseye is an 882, the KON KAV an 880, and the other an 881 pattern.

Thanks to Thawk again for all the additional eye-candy and factoids. Actually I'm enjoying everyones contributions in this thread.

I never knew the Genuine bone 80T was only made for the first year of production-1959. Here's mine......
