Quite often an inquiry is posted relating to the history of Schrade this often includes questions regarding the numerous automatics ( switchblades)which Schrade produced for many years. Indeed George Schrade is considered the father of the production automatic knife.

While it is difficult to find historical pictorial material on Schrade, or Schrade knives in general, it presents even more of a problem when trying to research the automatic versions. The last pictorial reference book was over 20 years ago. It has been out of print for years, and while it sold for under 20 dollars it now can bring 150 dollars on ebay. ( An introduction to switchblades: MYERS ).

A new up to date reference for the early history of the Schrade company as well as a pictorial reference for the grading, pricing, and identification of these items has been needed for a long time.

On Nov 1 there will be a new book out which should answer many of these questions and hopefully fill this void. I am attaching a picture of the book cover and editorial regarding it. It will be available at all major book outlets. Thankyou Rich
