An old friend drove out from Austin for a visit. She wanted to hit the antique store in town to find some old mixing bowls. So yes, the goofy doofus went "antiquing". Of course my eyes were peeled for things other than bowls. Found this one. Pretty good shape with lots of old character. If I am reading Levine's guide correctly the tang stamp was used 1946-1950s. Does sound about right? Schrade - Cut Co - Walden NY.

The same knife is shown in the 1926 and 1940 catalogs. The engraved bolster is slightly different type. The Schrade Cut Co stamp was changed to Schrade Walden NY in 1946. Nice find there Rob. Interesting that one side is sawcut, the other appears to be smooth.

Nice old Schrade! The handle could just be pocket worn, polishing mostly on the side that rubbed the leg. That combined with a cut from a sharp saw!!

Thanks for the info thawk. So at the very least it is just a little older than me.

We bought three bowls, fewpop, no pictures though. :D

Thats a fine lookin Barlow. Definetely got good character.

My wife and her parents have been dealing in antiques for years.
I can't tell ya the difference, but we have a bunch of really old rare bowls and glassware sets.

All just looks like glass to me though

I usually poke into any antique shop I am passing by and look around. It gets tough on the eyes, getting past all of the trinkets, but always worth it. Great find!

I see that the previous owner was another, like so many here, that preferred to use the pen blade in stead of the main blade. (There was a thread about use of pen blades not too long ago.)

Nice find.
