G'Day, I'm looking at Ebay item #250053678417 which is Schrade Custom Edition Copenhagen.
There is a prominent Warning on the box "Warning,.This product is not a safe alternative to cigarettes"
Am I missing the point of this warning which is from the 70's?Is it meant to be humourous or a dig at the anti smoking lobbies at that time or a perfectly rational Codger explanation?? Looks an excellent knife which I may go for.Is there any previous info re values etc on the forum. Appreciate any help. Hoo Roo from Oz.

No, not the '70's. Any and all mention of tobacco products had to carry some approved type of warning. I don't remember the year this started. Early on, dips and chews were thought by consumers to be "safe alternatives" to smoking. Gum, mouth, lip, throat cancers prompted the Sturgen Genneral to issue an edict for the smokeless industry too. Some online research might reveal the chronology.

The Copenhagen/Skoal knives Schrade made for American Tobacco were a form of advertising, some included in a three-pack of cans, some by mail off offers. They do make nice collectable displays. And there were quite a few patterns used, some for only Skoal, some for Copenhagen, some for both.
