Schrade Cutlery Collectors Society Formed

Bruce, thank you for the info , if LT says it is a good thing , that is good enough for me!

I'd probably join based on the price and what I would get
I'd be most interested on a newsletter/pdf on the history of USA Schrades
Like the stuff that pops up here all the time
The catalogs, the ads, the military order #'s, production #'s, old pictures of the factories, pictures of dudes in WWII with their can opener knives
If you wanna throw in some fluff about the Chinese Schrade's
A few ads under the guise of a "knife review" article
That wouldn't bother me a bit

I also agree that the Chinese knives only raise the value of the USA Schrades in the long run
Makes the REAL Schrades scarce
The ones with a REAL history

As far as a businessman's "motive" for starting up a collector club/society/guild===>
I could care less
It's the final product that I am offered is all that concerns me

If you gave me a free trial I'd sign up for sure
A sticker might do it to
Or a small pocket knife

I like contests
Something like win a oak display case with the Schrade logo etched in the glass
I don't care what font you use or what Schrade Era (Walden or Ellenville or Ireland) logo you use as long as it doesn't say China anywhere

I just realized that TennKnife Dude is the venerable auctioneer Mr. Voyles
Didn't know he was an author and knife historian as well
I thought he was the Cal Worthington of the knife auction world :D
(And I mean that as a compliment..believe me)
Sounds like he is well respected in the knife community:thumbup:
I've checked out his site a few times
I've always enjoyed his posts/knowledge here on BF
I'll have to add him to my Amazon book wish list

As far as the guy who bought the rights to the Schrade "name"
More power to him I say
I hold no ill will towards him as a USA Schrade knife collector
That is a great business move
I assume he can sell merchandise with the OLD Schrade logos?
Why not make some hats or t shirts or etched display cases with the Schrade Walden logo?
Those would be hot sellers I think
Then you could have a case for all your Schrade Waldens?
As long as it doesn't say China anywhere :(
That would drastically hurts sales

So what did Uncle Henry eat for lunch??
I'm dying to know
Did he pull out his whittler and start whittlin' toothpicks for everyone when he was done?

I would Like the book as well as looking into joining the organization, I too love Knives.I have searched at Books-a-Billon here in my town, Cullman AL, but cannot find any of the books mentioned?? were do I go to look for them?
Thanks In advance for your help
Mike

Ditto

Dale

Dale,

I had not seen any comments by LT on the AAPK,when I made my posts on here. The last post I made on this subject was on 2/22/08.

Today,I see this thread by LT,(Posted: 24 Feb 2008 02:23) - that's today.

http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/knife_forum/viewtopic.php?t=7710

I suggest that all of you read it.
I don't consider it a "ringing endorsement" but if LT's willing to give it a chance,I'll do the same.

Since LT states "By the way I am still waiting to hear what will be expected of me as my duties now that I have acquired this esteemed position . All I did was accept and have not been contacted since?????? ."

Like most of you other Schrade nuts,I'll likely join the new outfit and trust it will be a good'un.
relodr

This whole thread reminds me of the first time I stopped into this forum. Is it time to bury the hatchet with Mr. Taylor?

I think the time to bury the hatchet with Mr. Taylor will be when he starts clearly marking is knives made in China, and oversees the Q/C of his products so that new collectors buying from him are not getting junk made under the Schrade name.Arnold

wow relodr thats good stuff thanks for having me take a look very interesting!!!- Joel

Joel,
If you liked the info in the other thread, read Lt's posts in this one:

http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/knife_forum/viewtopic.php?t=5844

"Ah welcome to the land of Schrade where anything ( as I often have said is possible ) . However in case this really not that unusual. The first thing to always remember is that nothing Schrade did came down the mountain with Moses nor were they the Denver mint ( which also makes mistakes ). This if I had to guess looks like a Smokey knife. Again on the blind I would say something that was in one of the 27 semi trailers that they bought for 34 thousand dollars Lot number 4 labeled WIP ( work in progress ) appraised at several million and forced to be sold at auction when a pre auction offer from Smokey and Blue Ridge of around 100,000 was rejected by the judge. Then they got it for 34,000 for reasons I have stated and reiterated to many times to go over again. "

For the newcomers to this forum, who weren't here 4 years ago, there is some history involved in the attitudes of some toward the "tennessee mafia".
Most of the knowledgeable Schrade collectors have moved to the other forum.
I probably have a Gigabyte of Schrade history and pictures of rare Schrades in my computer files, that those fellows posted and shared.
Every night, this forum was like your favorite watering hole where you could spend 2-3 hours with friends, showing and looking at the latest finds and learning Schrade history from the forum experts. Stuff that still has not been published in any knife books by anyone.
Relodr

Relodr states "most of the knowledgeable Schrade collectors have moved to the other forum"....your opinion and not mine mate. You are all free to move wherever and I notice a lot of dual posters there and here....however we should all be indebted to have Codger's input and tireless investigative work/contributions on this, our Forum.I personally find it refreshing his posts are made without the ego and desire to push his own opinions and less butt licking means we can stick to Schrade history both old and new.Codgers'reviews on modern USA Schrade is unsurpassed in addition to his history anecdotes. I challenge the statement "most of the knowledgeable Schrade collectors have moved "but I respect your right to make the assertion. To get the complete picture you need to balance the old with the new and IMHO this forum NOW does that particularly well in addition to readily accepting questions and responding to novice collectors and "knowledgeable" collectors alike. You dont have to be an "expert" to feel worthy enough to make a contribution on this Forum...may it never change.
The rest is all ancient history...moving forward. Hoo Roo

re: Larry303s post above. i strongly second all he said. i showed up here 1 year ago, knowing nothing and asking lots of questions. i was immediately welcomed and many members have given of their time and knowledge to help me become a Schrade loving collector. there is a great deal of Schrade resources and knowledge here as well as good, non competitive friendship.
i might join another forum, but this is "home". roland

Very well said Rolando!!!!
My sentiments EXACTLY

What is the "other forum"?
The all about pocket knives one?
I don't like their layout as much as BF

Thing is I usually don't post unless I have something to say.

I'll have a photo or two to post in a few days.

Mr. Voyles, is there a waiting list for your new Schrade book to which i could be addad ? thanks, roland

....I like to remain a moving target too!
May I ask again the possible release date of your new book Bruce? Thanks. Hoo Roo
