Could someone tell me the model number of a vintage Schrade Fisherman folding knife I have. The vintage is late 50's early 60's. The color is yellow. It has one large blade and also a saw blade with a hook remover on the end. The blade length is about 4+ inches. There is also a small hook sharpening stone fixed to the outer scale. Thanks for any help...captainkettel...

It is probably an Imperial/Schrade #943. They were pretty common. I found several in a hardware store in Northern Idaho last year, new in clampack for $5.00 each. I bought 5 or 6 of them. I think Codger has one I bought there.

Post a pic if you can. That is the only way to tell for sure.

Captain,
Here is a Schrade Walden model from 1957. Its a model 208. sold for $4.95 MSRP.
Ulster also made one as I thnk just about every manufacturer did.

P.S. Ive done a little more research since I posted the last picture and this could be a more interesting story..
I need to know exactly what is stamped on the main blade. Is a Schrade or Schrade Walden. Reason is the Fishermans Pride (208-Y) looks like it was discontinued for a few years shortly after 1959.

Schrade Walden pattern 209, referred to as the 'Old Lunker'. Not mine, wish it was.

A lot of fish knives are fairly inexpensive (Imperials), but sometimes you'll see some Schrade Walden fish knives go for big dollars. Seems there was an real nice one very recently on Ebay. A brown one.

I found Larry's catalog info interesting. Didn't know the tip was magnetic.

I chuckle at the thought of scaling a mess of walleye's with a fish knife. I think I'll stick to a 167 for that task.

Larry, there was one similar to this model on e-bay last week, the scales seemed to be made of a very smooth wood, I wished I still had access to the item number, with 40 minutes to go it was over $200.00, I don't know if anyone else saw it. The knife was made for Abercrombie and Fitch

Maybe the seller will throw in a few of his fishing lures to round out the deal!

That's the one Waynorth, thanks for sharing, exeptional quality, Well done.

I'm gonna have nightmares about that flaming card now!! ER, pass that eucalyptus branch, will ya?

...for a Canadian you know a bit too much about Aussie mate!!! My handle on Ebay is Ecalyptus because when my youngest daughter was registering me originally on Ebay she mis-spelt Eucalyptus and thats what I am stuck with.! There used to be Koalas in the trees where we used to live.
Waynorth did you get that knife O.K. from that shiela mate?
No one is game I gather to touch my post on the 752's might have to bid myself and thats no Koala Bear Trap!!
Codger did you get that ball bag mate or are you having too much fun on your own to let anyone know?? Hoo Roo

Waynorth,
Congrats on that one, I had a feeling you'd go for it too. Keep the family together so to speak.
Larry,
Just so you know, bone 80th anniversary boxes were wood, different from the delrin box.

No, Larry, I didn't! Thanks for reminding me that I haven't updated that tale of woe!
I have opened a dispute with ebay, and am pursuing it as fraud with the post office. What a pain in the platypus! BTW, a lot of Aussies come to visit Canada, and Oz is a mecca for young people traveling to see the world from here! I'd like to see it myself.
My wife has a cousin living there, married to one of your countrymen:thumbup: ! I'll find out where tomorrow. Everyone knows stuff about Australia from school and
I guess I pick up a few things by oz-mosis:D !

.......we're going to have a Schrade show'n'tell at my place one day for all who can make it. You can all go down in our White Pointer Feeding Cage just out of our Bay at Neptune Island and the tiddly ones around 18' built like Kombi Vans come around to say hello with big toothy grins. We have to clean out the wet suits after each pointer inspection...........I suspect the pointers will take one look at Codger and swim off to warn the others!!!!! Neptune is where segments of Jaws were filmed originally. Hoo Roo

It would be tempting to join in a co-op buy there Larry, But in the middle of winter here, construction work is bottomed out, and my knife funds are zilch. Did the seller provide you with a closeup photo of the tang stamps? I'd imagine that the understamp would be Imperial, Prov. R.I., not Colonial, Prov. R.I. These office knife patterns were quite popular as advertising knives with the metal covers engraved or stamped. Maybe these sat for years because of the overstamped tangs. Imperial did sell a lot of skeletons, and I could see Schrade Walden buying some to augment their production. Just not with the Imperial stamping. I'd say they are interesting error knives. Neat that they are in the original box, if that is the case.

Yes, thanks, it came at the end of last week. I've still not decided what to do with it. I appreciated the card too.

Perhaps I'll make the trip down under before I go spinning off this mortal coil, and I can see for myself your beautiful country.

And maybe even learn what happened to the rest of Mr. Roo, poor fellow. I have little interest in shark diving, however. Nor would I care to swim with rays, or wrestle a croc. Some national pastimes are best left to the originators.

Michael

EDIT: Now that I've shown it off here, everyone will want one!

.....I would have to say the opening looks a little bigger than when I sent it mate!! Glad you like it.
I havnt asked for tang stamp close-up yet and was particularly waiting to hear your comment re Colonial V Imperial supposed original stamping.
We're in 100 degree heat here just came out of record drought with record flooding and everything washed out..what gives with this world weather today?? Hoo Roo

It is unseasonably warm here in North Carolina as well. Nothing like swatting mosquitos while out hunting in the middle of winter. Winters here, and in many other parts of the southern U.S. have been increasingly warmer since the early 50's. I'm not a big global warming alarmist; but, it does make you think.

The story of the Cut.Co. whittler ends in another thread about how to treat your customers. Sorry for all the hopping around (from hanging out with Aussies no doubt:D !) But I couldn't remember where I started. Hoo Roo!
