Playing with knives this weekend while we are out camping and my wife's cousin brings out this Schrade Extreme Survival coated stainless knife. We had been playing with a few Esee's and a TOPS blade.

He says "don't laugh, I only paid $30 for this."

I have to say, I was impressed for the money. After doing a little looking, it sounds like the 1095 carbon steel models are better. Does anyone have the SCHF38 Frontier? I believe that's the 5.75 inch Model

Thinking about snagging a few of these to keep in our cars.

I have a Gerber Prodigy in one of the cars now. These seem like they would be tougher.

You won't be unhappy if you get one. Decent for the money. My SCHF37 came with a nice edge from the factory and is even better after I sharpened it after its first use. If the grind is off a bit it is easily fixed and the steel is great for the price. I also have a SCHF26 in 8cr13mov. That steel with the heat treat Schrade uses is very good. Mine holds an edge a bit longer than the 1095 and is as easy to sharpen. It is also just as tough. You won't hurt them in either steel.

The first week I had it I put it through every worthiness test imaginable. Their 1095 holds a great edge, the grind is a great all around grind. You will not be able to brag about over paying or having the latest trendy brand of knife, what you will have is a tool that gets the job done and can be put away knowing it will get more done in the future.

I've only had it ten days but it's been through a lot. Here it is five days into worthy of duty testing.

Even them nasty knots in that twisted wood couldn't hurt it. Clears up hunting spots and shooting lanes real quick too, even the thicker brush is cut down easily.

I think I'll be ordering a few of these along with some Streamlight Siege AA lanterns and some Leatherman Wingman's will be going in each vehicle.

If you order a few get one in their stainless. It is a perfect match to the knife and tasks it would be expected to do. I never liked stainless in a big fixed blade but they did their homework on this in their stainless. Wouldn't be a bad idea to have one in stainless anyway of it's going to sit in a vehicle for extended periods.

Hmm... After reading more about the BK15, I believe I'll buy a few of then for around $42 a piece. I really hate buying Chinese and avoid so when I can.
