Hello everyone,

I have a question on a knife I bought. It is a 3 blade junior stockman with what looks like stag scales. The first blade has 1869 Keen Kutter 1969 and the tang reads schrade walden stainless N.Y. USA. It is a clip blade. the second is a sheep foot blade with stainless on it. the third is a spey with stainless on it. it has a golden sheild that reads keen kutter 1869-1969. I found this knife listed in L.G. 4 pg 163.

My Question is this; It came in a Brown leathery looking box. 4 5/8 inches long by 1 1/4 wide by 1/2 inch thick. with Uncle Henry in gold cursif on top of the box and 897-uh also in gold on the side.

Is this the origanal box it came in? I don't believe it is, but I am not sure. If not is the box worth anything?

Thank for looking,

Shane Stone

I do not believe the box to be original for that version of that pattern but I sure bet it ( the knife) fits the box good, because the 897UH pattern was the same as the KEEN Anniversary model. ( NOTE actually they were made in two models, the 897 pattern and a 3 blade serpentine just a little smaller ).

It would seem more likely that somewhere along the line that knife fitted that box and it went with it. This often happens in the store when the buyer wants a box for a gift and a salesperson is more interested in what seemed to fit rather than what was original.

Although it is not unheard of a mistake like this happening at the plant itself.

As to the value of the box there was a time when I would have said not much but now in the age of ebay who knows? Still I would say chances are, even to someone who had to have it that 5 or 10 dollars would be tops. The knife in mint shape, is worth about 50 to 85 dollars collector value. They cost 10 bucks back in 69. I hope this helps LT

it632ret,

Thanks for the help, I think I will just leave the knife in the box. this way it will stay in mint condition. If I ever do decide to sell the knife should I give them the box and tell whoever that it isn't the origanal or just keep it. Also do you happen to know in what kind of numbers were they made?

Thanks again,

Shane Stone

The box is no big deal either way so do what ever seems appropriate at the time. Of course you might want to keep it if you do not sell for 100 or 200 years by then everything around now will be worth something ( that is as long as there is still a world at all). The answer to your second question is 6000 were made. Good Luck LT
