Schrade knife ID

Sword and Shield: Which knife? The camp or the very classy senator? If it is the Senator, it's from an ad flyer dated 1951.

The Senator. Thing's dead mint, absent some blade wobble from factory (no sharpening, no use! :)). :D Picked it up for $12 at an antique mall.

I've been hanging around Political, too, and it's nice to step back into the relative calm of the Manufacturers forums.

This thread got me thinking of my old Boy Scout knife, so, I located it, and here's its picture:

This is an Ulster Knife, also manufactured in Ellenville, N.Y., at approximately the same time as Jim's Schrade, I'm thinking. There's no shield on either side, so I'm presuming that this is an example of the "civilian" version. There's a nail notch cut into the handle and liner on the punch side to allow purchase on a ridge that runs 3/4 of the length of the punch. The main blade's tang states "ULSTER/KNIFE USA."

Nice.

Here's another Boy Scout knife, this one with BSA logo, the tang is marked Imperial PROV. R.I. USA, though the lady who brought it from Boston said she ordered it as a Camillus from the Knife Center, bought new in 97 or 98 I believe.

One of these days I'm going to build me a light box to take better pictures, the best light I have at night is in the bathroom and it's not too good.

Phil, yes I have great memories from Michigan, as a kid I was in a student exchange program and spent a few months in a small town called Stevensville near lake Michigan, I was only 9 years old and it was a lot of fun (academic achievement can get you far even when very young).

Amazing when you ask someone who was there. The original utility knife in question is a model 914, it is a Schrade Walden made in ELLENVILLE not Walden. The model did not sell well and it was discontinued in the early 60 tys in favor of the more popular Ulster 114. These knives aside from shields and tang stamps were the same. They had jigged delrim handles. ( which If I would have known for sure would have made this an easier task since it would have ruled out Walden.) Thankyou DAVE SWINDEN for your help. It never fails I ponder for hours and he rattles off the correct answers in 7 seconds. It helps when you were there. For those of you who do not know Dave is the past Vice president of Schrade he was with them for over 50 years and I say without fear of reproach the greatest living authority on Schrade in the world. Sometimes he even lets me ask him questions. LT PS Schrade made utiliity patterns in Walden but as I had pointed out the blade patterns were different. and they did not carry this shield.

Thanks, LT. Again, a fascinating thread and educational for all of us.

Luis! What is this, editing your thread because of something off topic?
When do we ever worry about that around here.

Phil

TOPIC ??????? You mean there is a topic?????? Wow it is like reality, what a concept. ( Quote ie Robin Williams 1882 ). LT PS WE don't need no stinking topic.
