Hello folks, I'm new to the forum- looks like a great, informative site. I've got several Schrades- am somewhat partial to the LB7's, and I was curious about the production dates of two of them- one stamped 053956 (pretty sure that first digit is a zero- rather than an O, not totally sure though). The second is
J17999- both are stamped Schrade + (over) USA LB7 on the blade, any info would be appreciated.

Also, on a similar note- what's the prescribed method for LB 7 disassembly? Not even thinking about messing with either of the aforementioned, but from time to time I seem to have run across "parts" knives that would be candidates for tinkering with. I'd prefer to have a little insight prior to having at it, to lessen the chance of adding insult to injury. Again, any info is appreciated- thanks!

Most of the Schrade knives that were serialized were done for warranty purposes. With knives that were high production like the LB7, they would have run into numbers longer than the blade eventually, so at some point, they started adding an "alpha" prefix to the shorter serial number. Here is one thread where this is discussed. Ms. Chase was a long time Schrade factory employee and an excellent source of information.
