I am new to knife collecting and after some research decided to collect CASE folding knives. At first, I was going to stick with one color or pattern, but ended up getting different patterns and colors...it seems more interesting that way. So far, I have about 12 CASE folders of various colors and patterns. I visited a hardware store who carries CASE to see what he had and they told me they were't going to carry them any more. They had a nice wooden display with about 12 or so CASE knives, but some collector had already bought the whole deal.

They also had some SCHRADE knives, so I ended up buying one of them as they were "Made in USA". I later found out that SCHRADE stopped making knives in USA in 2004 and Taylor continues to make them in China. I do not own one of the Chinese made knives so can't make any judgement as to quality versus the USA made products. Anyway, I decided to head back to the hardware store to grab a few more SCHRADE "Made in USA" . Ended up with 3 Uncle Henry 897, 804, 807 and 1 Old Timer - Blazer 890T. The Blazer is kind of interesting with the serrated blade. I haven't seen too many of that model on the internet. Here are a few quick photos...

Take Care,

George

Schrade made very good to excellent quality knives, and for decades was THE choice for the American publics user grade traditional knives. EVERYBODY had an Old Timer stockman. I have handled and looked very very closely at the China made Schrades, and I will say only that I personally would NEVER buy that quality of a knife. Bladeforums has a dedicated Schrade collectors forum, filled with loads of information on all Schrade USA products. I'm sure they'll give a warm welcome to any new found Schrade enthusiasts.

Very nice!

I've stocked up on USA Schrade's myself -- mostly Old Timers. I've got several 8OT's, Sharpfingers, Little Fingers...I guess that's it. I have one 34OT which is in my pocket right now.

If you want to learn more about your new knives, the Shrade Collectors Forum here on BladeForums (look in the Manufacturers Forums) is about the best place on the net for all things Schrade. Lot of VERY knowledgable Schrade buffs there.

It's incredible that you found those still in stock somewhere. I'm not familiar with the UH models, but that particular Old Timer hasn't been produced since 1999.

Good Hunting!

EVERYBODY had an Old Timer stockman....

I can vouch for that - I still have mine and it's in pretty sad shape!

I have a good friend who regularly invites us to his hunting camp, and I just gave him two Old Timer fixed blade knives - kept my sharpfinger though.

I have pretty much a complete collection of their "3rd Generation" series gentleman's folders I'd like to trade - on the slippie swap meet thread above.

GeorgeH6,
Welcome to the forum!. Man those Uncle Henry's are fine and they are hard to find too, I especially love that one with the bail!.. If you are getting a good price on them you may want to purchase the whole kit and caboodle. Just ask the owner for a discount first, hell who knows since they haven't moved by now he may be willing to give you a discount to give you some incentive to take them all..

Also, food for thought, the Schrade forum is right next door just in case you did not realize that. They have an abundance of knowledge just in case you do decide to stay with Schrade collecting..

Can I ask what the model number is on the knife w/ lanyard loop (the "Copperhead" pattern).

I carry a Case knife in that pattern in my watch pocket, but a little lanyard would make retrieving it much easier.

Thanks!

The knife with the bail (clevis...shackle) is an 804UH, known as the Journeyman. It doesn't really have a "Copperhead" bolster however. I'd say it was more of a Pen pattern. Great little (2 3/4") knife, IMO.

That 897 was a heck of a nice edc pocket knife! Just big enough to do about anything that had to be done with a pocket knife, but real easy on the pocket.

local harware place called chase pitkin went under a year or so ago-4 stores within 15 minutes or so-money was tight but i managed to snag a few nice ones at a good price-one of my favorites is 12uh roadie, has a shackle like your 804uh and about 2-3/4 also with a flat hinge bolster-also a 885 uh "king ranch"--a 55otg green liner lock with a chisle grind--807 uh--my favorite,77ot new and improved musky-8ot and 94 ot-most nib-

dont think i paid over 15 bucks for any of them-

man i wish i still had that golden spike from 30 plus years ago
