Schrade Middleman Jack (Short update)

If it says "USA", it's a USA Schrade, right?"

You are correct. I edited my post above. I deleted "USA" from "125OT China Schrade."

The problem for me is that much advertising and descriptive copy is designed to obfuscate country of origin, unless you spend time scrutinizing the written copy, or actually see the country of origin stamped on the Tang, which is often not shown in the copy or the pics.

It may be that this deliberate mis-information does not bother anyone younger than 75.

:) Well, I'm 56 and wouldn't like it. I've only bought Schrades I've gotten to handle. Only have a few, want more.

Well the first one came in the mail today. To be honest, it's not that bad. Especially considering the price paid. The large blade is a little hard to open because the nail nick is partially obscured by the pen blade. But it can be opened. Blades don't rub the liners or anything. It came sharp as well. We'll see how the others are when they show up. Hopefully they're at least at the same level as this one. If so, I won't be disappointed.
I'll still stick with my Case Medium Jack for EDC though. :)

Final update. They've all arrived now. Really, they aren't too bad. Maybe I got lucky. They're all sharp. The first one was the only one that had the nail nick issue. The fit and finish is adequate.
I think they'll be a hit. :)

Now, there's a good update. I'm glad! I think it's great what you're doing.

I think they'll like them. I only needed three for the kids but I got a couple extra for other gifts.
Their Dad is a good dude but he's got no interest in outdoor activities. He collects and works on classic cars. I think he'll be happy for me to drag the kids into the woods so he can have some peace and quiet in the garage. LOL!

Let us know how the steel is on those puppies.

I would think the kids will really enjoy the new jack-knives knowing they are gifts from you and resemble something that you carry which will make them think of you each time they pull out the jack for a task, or mumbly-peg :->
My 1st knife was a "Sabre Japan" brand jack and I have no idea what ever happened to it. I was 5 then, and a couple years later I started to appreciate what it meant to have a really good knife.
40 years forward and I have a hard time some days deciding which one to carry :->

My first knife was a tiny 2 bladed toothpick my father gave me. I have no idea where it is today. That's actually what got me into traditional patterns. Memories, nostalgia, call it what you want. I bought a black peanut and that was the start of the snowball effect.

Yeah, having been a collector for many years, I never know what to carry. But regardless of what I carry that day, the peanut is there in my front pocket. :)

Well so far the Middleman Jacks have been a success. They really aren't too bad. Especially for under $10 a pop.
I've also been carrying one here and there and it's pretty easy to bring back to shaving sharp. The fit and finish on the two I gave to the boys is really good. I kept the one that has a small defect. The scales are warped a little and raised toward the rear bolster. Both side exhibit this but it's more pronounced on the shield side. Other than that they're all decent knives.
I've been carrying it in my back pocket with my wallet. It's more for a loaner since I also carry my Peanut and usually some other kind of clipped knife.
I'd say it was money well spent.
