Schrade Model 190?

I found a Schade Model 190 that has a flat ivory/plastic piece sticking out from the back of the handle. I have looked on the web but can not find out when it was produced or what it was used for.

That is a spud it was used in botanical, garden, flowers, trees ect work. It should be marked Schrade Walden. Usually in black comp although also made in imi ivory, and black peachseed comp. 46-72 under this mark. LT
