Schrade One-Piece Line: Any Good?

Is this the kind of teenager who might throw a $200 way overpriced knife at a tree even though you told him not to? That is what I would worry about with something like this. Even so called indestructible knives aren't meant to be thrown.

V VorpelSword There is a local guy who sells one-piece fixed blades that I have been considering. He's just getting started on these (not in knifemaking in general) and apparently there's only about 12 of them in the US so far. He's a trustworthy guy and they are milled from a single piece of Boehler K110. They look very much like Reeve's old one-pieces except that they all have the upper and lower guard. He makes them in three sizes and considers them a low numbered production knife rather than a full custom, kind of mid-tech territory. I'm going to go back and get one soon because I can't get them out of my mind, and nobody really makes a quality one-piece knife that I know of lately. If you want to you can DM me and I can see about getting one for you as well. They're going to be the best quality production one-piece you can find currently made on the market now. They're around the $350 area. Just a thought, as I'm almost for sure going to get one and I'd hate to see you spend near the same amount of money and not get the same quality, and I like the fact that you've bought some real nice knives for your sons.

Limp: You have my attention. I am an idiot on this board and have never figured out how to message anyone. .HELP!

Please message me and we'll figure it out.

Thank you for your concern.
Well he won't be a teenager till next month. Anyway, its not a brittle tipped Randall at near a grand. Its a hell-for-stout knife that is overpriced because they are discontinued, and folks still like them. Tree throwing won't do much to this knife, and the cost thing is my own folly.

Grandson is actually a great kid in every way' good grades. swimmer and runs the sound board at his father's church (Dad is the pastor). This is the right knife at the right time in his life.

Oh yea I forgot that you have to be a gold member to send private messages. I just shot you my email on your profile. You can send messages of sorts there. I'm not planning on going out and buying the knife (or knives) right away as I bought two knives already this week 😲. But yea if you don't mind waiting a couple, few weeks I'll go over there and grab one for each of us and you can send funds for it on paypal. They're really nice knives. I forsee them becoming very popular on here and extremely hard to get once we start showing pictures of them.

Necromancer, it’s alive!!! I found this as I was wondering about the old Schrade one piece knives. V VorpelSword Just wondering what he got. After reading all this, just curious of the boy’s experience with whatever he got, since he should be 14 now. A BK 2 would have been indestructible, or something from TOPS, or the ESEE 5.

The answer is "Yes" to both. They will cut (*and even baton) with ease. They are .25" thick, so you'll have to realize that they are not a fishing/filet knife. From my limited time with one, it was very well-made and did quite well as kind of an oversized "field" knife. Would I dress a whitetail with it? No.

As far as serving a 13yo boy well, I think "cool factor" and "durability" are key...and that knife has 'em both, in my humble opinion.

Signed,

A child of the 70's and teen of the 80's
+1 (except for the signature)!

The prices have gone thru the roof so, unless you can find a good deal....
