I got to use my sharpfinger today (again) for what it was meant to do, dress and skin deer. After field dressing and skinning it still shaves hair. I know I won't have to touch up the edge until I start bumping bone while butchering. If anyone is looking for a good, inexpensive hunter, I very highly reccomend this one. It has served me well for almost 20 years.

Darned good knives, although the sheath is a POS. A taxidermist friend of mine uses one exclusively. I picked one up at WalMart the other day. The edge extended only along 2/3 of the blade, but a little judicious work with a high speed grinder (cheapo Dremel), never letting it get hot, brought the edge right to the heel of the blade. Razor sharp. then I made a good pouch-type sheath for it. Nonthreatening, won't scare the sheeple, but capable of dissembling a moose.

Agreed, the sheaths are a POS. Mine came with a pouch style sheath that has worked fine. The blade has never cut through. I do use a rubber band for a retaining strap because the knife is a little loose.
You could have a custom sheath made. Normark has done at least one for a Sharpfinger. The sheaths provided with the knives now are just plain dangerous.

I use mine as a trout knife - works well.
I made myself a kydex sheath for it that is 100% better than the factory sheath.

Hey Guys....

You know it's funny you bring this up now...

I went to Detroit today and picked up a Sharpfinger because a customer ordered a sheath for it last week...

He was going to send the knife,, so I thought I'd grab one while I was over there today....

Got lucky,, it was the last one they had....

Although if I didn't need it,, I wouldn't have bought it..

The knife in general has a nice fit and finish,,, but the grind on it looks like a four year old did it...
Is pretty sloppy and uneven,, Not real sharp,,Nice Burr and HUGE marks from what looks to be a 20 Grit belt....

Won't take much to fix up...

This isn't my first Shrade,,nor will it be my last....I just wish they'd put a little bit more time into their QC....

The sheath,, lol well thats another story..Now thats an Easy fix....

Bulding a prototype for it tomorrow....
If anyone is interested,,let me know....

Normark and Deon, l am interested in one of your sheaths for the Sharpfinger if you have any for sale.

Thanks and please post reply or send email with pricing information.

Geeze, Eric! First the H1, now the Sharpfinger. Gotta get that e-mail off to Santa right soon.

Eric,
As soon as I get a few things sorted out, I'll be in touch.

I've got one of those Sharpfingers laying around the house somewhere. Maybe I will find it and take it out to the shop and regrind the blade to a nice thin flat grind on my Bader BIII. Shouldnt take much to make that little sucker razor sharp. I know they use good old 1095 for the steel.

If y'all are buying Sharpfingers (or any "clamshell" packaged Shrade at Wal_mart) they are seconds. Look closely. You'll see blades mismarked as to which model they are from, logo plates installed upside-down, uneven grinds, etc. I bought all my nephews Sharpfingers last Christmas. Took a while to get them in gift giving condition.

Hey Guys...

Sharp Finger prototype sheath is done,,and Looks Great...

The Sharpfinger has a Real nice lockup in Concealex..

The ones I made so far have all been Horizontal Carry Only and are quite comfortable worn this way....

All you Sharpfinger owners,, give me some input on how you want to wear them...

Eric,
Horizontal, handle forward. Just like your Spyderco Moran.

Horizontal, hand forward is the way to go.
I've got a couple Sharpfingers, and I'd be interested in purchasing sheaths for them.

Samwereb:

I think the drop point model of the sharpfinger has been discontinued. Haven't seen one for a long time in any shop or retail.
I have one and it is,IMO,the better of the two sharpfingers. Mine is at least 20 years old and still razor sharp and does all I ask of it as a fishing knife.
You might go the the exchange forum and put your wants there.Someone may have one they are willing to part with. Good luck.

I got my Sharpfinger last year from BCaffrey (hi Brian!) and I simply love it!

It came with a heavy-duty leather sheath. Though I made the mistake of keeping the knife inside the sheath for too long. Now it has a couple of rust spots which I can't seem to get rid of.. aghh..

Hmmm.. Normark's sheaths might just be the ticket.

Got to use it again today. This is one of the best designs out there. Now to get my Christmas shopping out of the way so I can get one of Normark's sheaths.
