Schrade Walden 804 "Carpenter Knife"

I've never seen a sabre ground 804 with Delrin handles, and only the one Charlie scored a while back in bone handles with a flat grind. There have been a few red bone Schrades that have shown up lately with that type of jigging. That one is really red. Wonderful pattern and nice gesture.

Steve - I agree with your assessment on the red bone with the non-peachseed jigging. I think it came right before the switch to Delrin.

Hal, I think the image gives the pile side a bit more of a reddish hue than it really has. I'd characterize it more toward the "amber" end of the spectrum with red overtones. The mark side does have the deep (blood) red hue mixed with amber.

Appreciate all the nice comments and information. This is a wonderful knife for EDC. Throw it in your pocket and you're good to go...;)

Back at ya, Vince. Thank you. We are indeed very fortunate here to be surrounded by so many goodhearted and like-minded friends. :cool:

By the way, any of you guys that want to show off your own Schrade Walden 804's (or their pre-WWII predecessors) go right ahead and add them to the thread. It's a wonderful pattern and I'm sure folks would enjoy seeing them.

Elliott,
Beautiful knife, and very nice gesture. May you get much enjoyment using it. The 804 is one of my favorite patterns.

I continue to believe this forum would disintegrate into troll-ish chaos without our great moderators, and Elliott is continually in the thankless thick of it.
A deserving recipient; and I applaud the generosity of the giver. I only wish I'd thought of it first!!

Thanks, Charlie for those kind words. I know I fail at times but you can be assured I do try my best. The rewards of friendship greatly outweigh the venom of the naysayers.
(And thank you for your timely thoughts. ;):cool::thumbup:)

Here is a pic with an original Schrade Walden 804 in the center, pardon the the other Two, they are 8041 patterns made around 1982/3 on the same frame as the 804.

Jack, I hope mine will earn its stripes as yours has obviously done.

Here are some;

Schrade also made a smaller version;

I feel ashamed to follow Charlie with my 804, missing shield and all, but here she is. She does sharpen up nice, though.

Great knives, guys! :thumbup:

Charlie, that's a true bevy of beauties! :cool:

Glenn, there's no shame in owning a great knife that actually does some work! (I see a useful edge glinting at me!) As opposed to a bunch of safe queens that only clamor for oil and polish, and frequent massages!
:D:D:D

They are glad you think they are beauties, Elliott!!:rolleyes:

I have to agree!:D

Nice trio, Rusty. I have to find one with that "Empire" shield.

I'll tell you guys one thing, this steel will take an edge!

Took it downstairs to see how much I could get done before the ballgame started and I was done in no time. Sharpens quickly and takes a very fine edge.

Now I've got another great knife for the rotation! :cool:

Many, many thanks to my benefactor. :thumbup:

I've always been very partial to the old Schrade steel. I think a lot of it is because an old 34OT was the first knife I was able to get scary sharp.
I still remember what a great feeling that was.

This pattern (and its Case sibling) is my favorite of the whittler patterns I've had an opportunity to own over the years.

The size is near perfect, the serpentine frame is racy and the blade selection is great (much like my stock and cattle knives).

What's not to like? :cool:
