Hey, LT or anyone....I have a guy that I bought a nice old Schrade Walden 883 from...it is a 50's era knife with green peachseed bone handles and a blade etch "Maher And Grosh".....nice old piece about mint....4" round bolster stockman, clip, spey and punch blades.

Here's the kicker.....he wrote me now to say that he has another one....but this is an 884.....he says its similar, the same frame but with clip, sheepfoot, and spey......he says it has genuine stag handles, which I find hard to believe.

None of my old catalog pages document a Schrade Walden 884......does anyone have any documentation of this pattern #???

Thanks

Hey knifeaholic,
The first one (883) sounds like it might be a Cattle Knife, with a punch blade. The second one sounds like a Stock pattern, of course. Who knows what scales Schrade MIGHT have put on... .....But here is a thread where LT and others discuss/mention both knives.

Not as good as the info you usually provide.. :D ..But it's a little help maybe:

The key here should be the tang marking if it is stag is should be Schrade or Schrade + not Schrade Walden. Some may have been made with in the last few years spe edition. LT Man this DSL thing is amazing my gate way 200 speeded up pretty good but this Compaq new baby I bought from Schrade is like lightning. 1024 whatevers and 2.4 whatevers and a whole bunch of room to keep stuff. Hot damn I feel like a gunslinger with a new scofield. Hey I got a network whatever the hell that is.

Thanks for the input, guys.....I have a pic on the way from the seller that may clear it up.

The 883 is a round-bolstered, 4" serpentine stockman, like the Case 6347, or Queen #9, with master clip blade, spey blade, and punch blade, green peachseed bone handles.

The 884 that this seller has he says is identical, except that it has master clip, sheepfoot, and spey blades, and (he says) stag handles.

The only documentation that I have that comes close is that in my 1963 catalog is shown a pattern #879, which is a round-bolstered, 4" serpentine stockman with master clip, sheepfoot, and spey blades, at that time they had all gone to STAGLON handles, so that's how it's listed. The funny thing in the catalog is.....the knife as pictured looks like it has genuine STAG (not bone) handles.

And...LT, I have seen some patterns of Schrade Walden pocket knives with genuine stag handles...and by that I mean the older 50's era knives....I have seen a very few patterns but enough to know that they were for real, at least IMHO.
