Schrade: Why the Hate?

Sorry, off topic warning, but I'm inexperienced in traditional knives. Can anyone help me out with what the name of this type of automatic mechanism is?

I've heard it described as the same/similar style mechanism as on older Jaeger's and Aerial's automatics. Push up on the lever to fire the blade and same to unlock it.

Like it has been said many times already schrade is not what it once was, im not a hater but I agree with the reasons why people hate what taylor has done with schrade. While the china knives are sometimes decent I would rather spend more money and time searching for a good 'ole usa schrade, they are worth it by far. I wont support the new "schrade", theres so many better companies and knives out there and whenever I want a schrade I will only buy usa ones, fortunately they arent hard to find.

I go by the looks of a knife, not the name.I like the looks of the new Schrades and plan on getting some.Cold Steel is happy that Schrade is the new whipping boy around here.

As long as your getting something that you enjoy and has value to you that is all that matters.

I think the point here many are trying to make is a sense of disappointment in what one company has done riding on the nostalgia of days gone by, a feeling of loss so to speak.

So, that knife that you purchase today, whether it's made here or overseas, will someday have its own history and memoirs to be passed along, and will be special in its own right.

The Cliphanger..... Ugh - what a turd of a knife! The worst knife I have ever owned, hands down. Here's what I said about it in 2005:

It has a handle as ergonomic as a cactus, a blade that won't hold an edge, a retention system that doesn't work at all, a thumb opener that absolutely sucks, the roughest opening of any folder EVER, and a "liner lock" about as thick as rice paper! (with it "locked" open, you can move the blade toward the handle and watch the "liner lock" bow) The thing is an absolute piece of trash. I use mine as a grout scraper, and it barely functions at that job!

WHAT AN ABSOLUTE P.O.S.!!!!!!

Shrade used to make some great stuff though. I used to love the Sharpfingers. I've probably had more multiples of them than any other knife.

Ha! That was my first knife as a kid, I took that thing everywhere. It went on many scout trips around the states. I liked it at the time. Of course, I know better now. I wish I could find it though for sentimental reasons.

I myself have bought a Kissing Crane thinking I was getting a decent German knife and gotten an Italian one which was not as good.

The new Schrade owners encourage this type of "mistake" more than others but they are not alone.

You are perfectly aware of what you are getting, and what you are getting isn't bad really.

Not an issue, enjoy.

Shrade has a few good knives, the SCHF2SM looks like the one hollow handled knife that I want. The whole knife is one piece of steel unlike the other cheap hollow handle knives.
