Scissors --- Multi-tool... WHY????

I use the scissors on my little Victorinox classic all the time. Nails, hangnails, threads, out of control beard and moustache hairs. The most useful thing is snipping the rubber bands of off my kids braces when one of those metal posts comes unglued from their teeth. No way a larger scissors can do that fine job.

NOSE HAIRS.

My Micra has probably cut a small forest of nose hairs since I got it. Dang, that's usually all I cut.

But then everybody borrows my Micra to cut random stuff. Don't tell 'em I cut my nose hairs with it. I never know what to tell them when they cut food packages with it... :barf:

I use the scissors on my Wave often enough to appreciate them.

Come to think of it, often enough so that I wouldn't want a multi without scissors.

To each his own, so the saying goes...

i use the scissors to cutout paper templates for sheetmetal parts I make.

from CAD, to the printer in 1:1 scale, to the sheetmetal with some spray adhesive and out comes identical parts.

I keep a leatherman micra on my keychain all the time, the scissors I use to cut my nails, then just take the sharp bits off with the file. I also use the scissors to cut odds and ends, theyre useful to cut tie wraps when the thing that its fastened to is delicate and could be damaged by a knife blade. also very useful to cut the odd thing in public maybe where it wouldnt be a good idea to show a knife. I find the tweezers pretty useless though, i cant grip anything with them, I usually resort to tearing the itchy beard hairs out with my fingernails!

I use the scissors on my Pulse while fishing to cut fishing line. Cutting that little bit of line off after you tie in a hook or a piece of tackle is easily handled with scissors, and you end up with a hook in your thumb a whole lot less often than you would if you used a knife. I also think it handy for trimming up the rubber skirt on a spinner bait after a few fish have torn it up a little bit.

I find that I use the scissors on my Micra and my Swiss Army knives so much that refuse to buy a multi-tool without scissors.

Scissors are simply easier to use than a blade for many tasks (like hair, threads, twine, moleskin, tape, ect) because you don't have to use your other hand to hold the object taunt.

I also find that scissors work better on small zipties than a knife.

Good luck,
Allen.

Useless, they are. Anything you can do with a pair of scissors, you can do with a sharp blade.

Scissors?

Corkscrew?

What's next, a shoe horn?

Shoe Horn?!

That reminds me of another use for my multi-tool.

I was putting sneakers on my 4-year old kid last year. He was typically squirming and being uncooperative. After a minute of wrangling his sneakers on, I realized that the tongue was pushed down into the sneaker. Now, taking the sneaker off and starting again, was not high on my list. I could not quite reach it and get an adequate grasp with my fingers, so I pulled out my Wave and used the pliers to grab the tongue and pull it out. Ever since then, on occasion, my son asks me to use my multi-tool on his sneakers. Kids.

I'd like to see a barber that uses only a sharp knife to cut folks hair.
A sharp blade can probably replace scissors the same way it can replace a screwdriver...
I believe in the right tool for the job, and is'nt that the whole point of the multi-TOOL?

Cheers,
Allen.

My barber does use a knife. You mean they are supposed to use scissors? No wonder he only charges me $0.50.

If one needs to use a pair of scissors for a comprehensive, detailed job--such as cutting hair--than I guess scissors are okay. But in the realm of everyday multi-tool/SAK tasks, a good blade will do every time, certainly enough to warrant not having the extra space dedicated to the scissors.

A few yrs ago, when I was doing that type of work, I would use scissors to cut foam pipe insulation. That is the way everyone was shown how to do it. It was assumed that a pair of scissors would be the ideal tool for this job. It was-- until I saw another guy using a cheap- and I mean cheap- kitchen knife. That knife worked much better than the scissors.

I guess my point is that there are a few tasks that may warrant scissors more, but not enough to make a fuss out of.

Using a knife as a screwdriver is bad, I've done it before. It is damaging at the most and impractical at the least. Not comparable to knife vs. scissors. Not even close.

As far as the point of the multi-tool being the right tool for the right job, I would say most models don't have scissors. Am I right?
