Morning everyone,
So I'm about to take the plunge into the world of Hinderer. However, before I make the leap I was wondering the pros and cons of a Wharncliffe blade vs a Bowie blade. I personally like both blade shapes but is there specific things that are better for one and not the other? This will be a edc/camping backpacking type of carry. Appreciate all the help and time!

Is there any reason you are not considering the Spanto, Slicer or Skinner? Do you prefer the XM-18 or the 24?

I'm looking at the 18 and just didn't give those much though...I guess the design style is what made me look into the Wharncliffe and Bowie. I'm open to all and along the way I'll be learning so I can't complain.

For your intended purposes I'd go with the Bowie, I also love the skinner, I'm planning on getting a skinner next, my EDC is a Spanto, it does pretty much everything good, its like the jack of all trades, does everything good. Right now I am giving some pocket time to my fatty harpoon, it sure is a tank

A pic of the the Fatty Wharnie and Bowie for reference. I have not had a chance yet to own and carry a Wharnie but do own a Bowie. I like the Bowies finer tip for more detailed work. I typically suggest to folks to get what appeals to them the most. I think either one of these will be capable of handling anything you throw at them. Congrats on making the plunge soon, I do not think you will regret it!

Man I'd like a fatty but that's a bit out of my range right now. I'll review everything and take what you said into consideration. I'm kind of leaning toward the Bowie but now with the new info on the spanto... I have some more research! I appreciate your input.

Can't go wrong with the bowie. I bought it first and had no regrets.

It sounds like you have to get the Bowie first! Haha, you can always get the wharncliff later. I owned a wharnie before and really liked it. I currently have a a slicer and really enjoy it.

I just got a Xm-18 Bowie a week ago today at it performs well, got mine from whitty at usamadeblade, excellent people and you will be satisfied with the Bowie!

The bowie is nicer looking. I personally like a blade with a little belly to it too. Makes is more versatile. My personal favorite it the slicer blade. I have it in a zt and its a great all around style of blade too.

Alright! You guys did it! You forced me to do it! Made me pull the trigger on a XM-18 3.5 Bowie! Hahaha, thanks for all the help today, it's seriously appreciated. I feel super comfortable with my choice. You all are rad and again I appreciate your time and input!
Cheers,

I wasn't able to stop at just one blade style  you likely won't be able to stop either.

Photobuckets acting up. Darn it.

A friend of mine has a Warnie and I really like it. If I were to buy another Hinderer I'd get a Warnie so that's what I recomend.

Never owned one myself, but I have been employed to fix a chipped/broken tip on a number of wharnies. Never had to do that for a bowie.

Hope that helps.

I have a Skinner...but if I were to buy another it would definitely be the Bowie. The wharney just doesn't appeal to me.

That does help alot and makes me a bit more comfy with my choice!

Bowie: looks really cool.

Wharncliff: Works really cool.

That is something I will keep in mind when I'm sure I'll look to pick up another one...and love the name by the way. Here's to hoping Jr will be back and kicking ass at Daytona!

I appreciate all the help and info. If I know me and if the knife lives up to the reputation that we all know I'm sure I'll be buying another blade style. Or two! Appreciate it all!
