There's a knife store at the mall in my area. I visit the mall perhaps three times per year, and after a couple of years in this area, I've only entered the store once because it's always full of teenagers trying to buy collapsible batons and balisongs. :jerkit:
Today, I was passing by and saw that it was empty, so I went in to browse and I noticed that they had a "25% off everything!" sale. I immediately went to their small Spyderco display. I saw a Salsa marked at $49.99, so I called over the clerk and asked to look at it.
It turned out that the display knife was the only one left in the store. It was in mint condition (in fact, it was dusty, so I doubt many people, if any, had ever touched it since it went up in the case). Nonetheless, I asked if I could get a discount due to its display status. The woman agreed so I got the knife for $49.99 minus 35%!
Curiously, the box reads "blue" but it looks purple to me -- probably a "mis-box" on the part of the store since this was a display item.
I've never owned a "cobra hood" Spyderco before... It seems to work quite well. For the life of me, I can't figure out the physics of the compression lock mechanism, but it seems identical to what I've seen on the Paramilitary, so I'm sure it's fine. Also, it's a Spyderco.
Size comparison: Meerkat (top) and Salsa (bottom). I like the "little big knife" design elements shared by the Meerkat, Salsa, Navigator, and, if I understand Sal's posts correctly, the upcoming Urban model. I marvel at how Spyderco can make small knives that still allow me to get a good grip with my paw-like hand!
