Just won an ebay auction, for a very magical tool called a Cole Drill. These were hand crank feed and speed drills built by Cole MFG, and are very rare. With different kinds of regularly available bits, they can drill through most anything: HSS lathe bits, un-annealed leaf springs, glass, full hard knife blades, truck frames, very versatile. They are originally setup for only silver and deming bits with 1/2" shanks, but you can fit em with a drill chuck to hold many more bits. They are very rare because of this, compact little tools that can do big things. More on when it arrives.

You know, if you ground the bottom of the post square, you could mount it in the hardy hole and use it on the anvil.
