Score of a life time!! (Winkler content, pics added)

I have received it and it is the real deal, a Winkler Hunter's axe... Winkler Knives II milled into the top of the head and curly maple scales. The bit looks brand new, no scuffs, mars, rust, nothing...the poll is unused. From what I can tell it even still has the factory edge factory edge on it and that sucker shaves hair! There is a couple scuffs on the handle that I plan to touch up to match the rest and one of the rubber snap straps is broken. I'll post pictures in the next couple days, but this one will be staying with me... I got too good of a deal to let it go.

Awesome score, glad to hear you're going to keep it. I paid full price for my Winkler hawks, but would have gladly bid on that same auction. I hope you enjoy it and hand it down to someone else when you're old.
By the way, you may want to contact Dan about a replacment for the broken rubber strap. Even if you have to pay for it, you'll have that baby in full working order. He's stopped using those rubber straps for the very same reason you need a new one. They are a nylon strap with snaps these days.

So here are some pictures at last, sorry it took so long been really busy with work and a snow storm. I did get a chance to take it out and use it a bit on a coyote hunt over the week end to clear some shooting lanes. I contacted Dan about the rubber sheath straps and he is sending me a set of the new nylon one free of charge! Talk about customer service, just can't beat that! Judging by the scuffs and a small crack in the one scale, I think some hunter/hiker got back to their car or truck and left this on the roof or tailgate when they drove off, it fell into the street and run over and it was picked up and turned in to the forest rangers. Just a stab in the dark though.

Good score! I can't imagine anyone faking a Winkler Knives 2 axe or hawk. The amount of effort it would take to copy the full tapered tang would just be too much.
It looks like the real thing to me, certain details look spot on. Look at the top when you get it, it should have "Winkler Knives II" stamped into the steel.

Yup. If you're going to do that you might as well make a real one.

Awesome score. That is killer.
