So a friend of mine called me up and told me she had a farrier who has lots of old worn out rasp. I know that good steel is cheap, and I do use ALDO's 1084, but its hard to argue with free high carbon steel. I started hardening and breaking a few today to check the grain, and so far everyone of them has come out with a silky fine grain, and seems to be able to heat treat and temper very well. Just wanted to throw this out there, that if you look hard enough, someone is always willing to help out a poor blacksmith/knife maker.
