Went to see a guy who said he had a garage full of blacksmith tools. Turns out he did could hardly move though the garage. Anyhow he had a 70lb arm and hammer and a M&H Mousehole he said he thought was a 150lb the marking on the side says 1.2.2 which from what I read makes it 170lb. I tried to work with him on price and ended up paying $225 for the M&H which is less than a $1.50 a pound. It is in pretty good shape with excellent rebound and good edges. I did a little research on it when I got home and it looks like from the way the stamp is on it was made between 1854 and 1875. I also picked up a post leg vice with 4 1/4" jaws for $50.00. It is also in good shape and the spring is still real good. I will get some pictures up tomorrow. This guy said he just sold a 2"x72" belt grinder for $75.00 last week it was a homemade with a Baldor motor. I wish I would have been able to jump on that my KMG needs a buddy:) He also has a Little Giant power hammer he said he would let go for $1500. My wife is gonna kill me! He also had a nice two burner forge that was on a stand with casters. He said he has two storage spaces full of stuff on top of whats in his garage that I can go look at whenever I want. Anyhow more to come I think I may have found the motherload.;)

man, do I need to find some one who would let a 2x72 grinder go for $75

Have about a 110# Mousehole anvil, price was $125.00 about 15 years ago, the top is a bit rough but leaves a nice texture when making small forgings. It can be dented with a small hammer but a file slides off it like a needle on glass. Think it may have been through a fire and the top surface hardened by fire hose water, just speculation on my part, it has a nice rebound and used for hammerins in the shop.

Burton,

Great to hear how well that turned out for you. The anvil sounds like a decent one. The post vise is a very useful item as well.
I have found that wives are not threatened by these; but the L.G. is another matter.
You might be able to pass that off as a yard ornament of sorts. There are many people, with crowded shops, who post here, that can give you advice on acquiring the hammer and still maintain your marriage status.:D
