I work for a company that has several departments, one is a service department that fixes electrical appliances for the public and other departments in the company.
One of our departments had a Thermolyne 1500 furnace with burnt out elements in it.They sent it to the service dept to have it fixed and were told it might be a while till the parts came in.They said ok,order them and we will bring the furnace over when the parts come in.
Well the parts came in and they were called to bring it over for repairs, and the man on the other end said to forget it,they just bought another furnace.
Well,I spot it sitting in the corner with the elements sitting on top,and I ask what are yall going to do with that. They say they were throwing it away.
I said, here let me throw it away for you :D:D:D.It now sits in my shop.

I found it in a ditch about a month ago.

Mystery tool looks like a tool holder/rest for a lathe. GREAT score on that furnace, what temperatures is it rated for?

Thx,the furnace is rated for 2250 f.But it is a little on the small side with a inside area of 4 1/2 by 4 1/2 by 9 inches.
And is only 120 volt.
Anyways it will come in handy none the less.

Toxey,
Anyone with any imagination can plainly see that the second item is a personal castration device. I will explain how it works if need be, but I have faith you'll get the hang of it in short order:D
Matt

get the hang of what?...not if your castrated...

The furnace is looks like a desktop kiln. Potters use them for testing glaze recipes and new clays, before spending lots of money on a big firing, just to find out it's crap. Also, I think they use in them in dentistry - the shops that make dentures and crowns and such. Oh, and jewelers.

I've used one very similar to this. If it's big enough, you might just have yourself a good heat treat oven.

Oh, one last thing. If you're going to heat up a can of chili while your working in the shop, make sure you crack it first, or BLAMMO. I did that in a welding rod oven once.:)

Nice score, I bought a thermolyne for $100 once, with a controller etc, supposed to work but I havent fired it up yet, a little bigger than your free one. I think it is a "muffle furnace" and wouldnt it be perfect for mokume gane,,,

The mystery tool looks like something to hold on to a section of railroad...

Cheers Rody

I had that thought too .It looks like something to clamp a section with a flange such as an 'I' beam or a railroad track.Ask a RR man.
