I know this isn't the rarest knife but it's one I've wanted for a long time.

Sorry for the cruddy iPhone pics but I was overjoyed and I wanted to share it with you guys. I took it apart to check and make sure it didn't have a S stamped on it and now the action seems a little stiffer. I'm going to take her apart tonight it hit her with some CRK flourinated grease.

Thanks for looking.

Congrats! Good looking knife, it is always nice to finally get something you have been chasing.

Great knife, Those are getting hard to find, Enjoy...............................

:yawn::yawn::yawn: Rickster :yawn::yawn::yawn:

Congrats on your new knife!
Questions:
1) Why do so many seem to like BG-42? Is it better than S30V? In what ways?
2) If it isn't better than S30V than why get it? Collectability?
3) If it is better than S30V then why the switch?

A lot of people feel the BG-42 held an edge better, but check out Chris's recent coments at the top of the forum. His tests show s30v holds and edge somewhat better than the BG-42.

I've been looking for a Classic in BG42 for a while myself. Where do you guys find these things????:confused::confused::confused:

Nice score by the way:thumbup::thumbup:

I recently bought a small LH regular with a BG-42 blade. In general, I prefer the classic/21 because they have IMO better lock/unlock access, but the BG-42 blade is really nice. Yes, to answer another post above, I do think it holds an edge better and longer.

Right from Chris's post:"· "

My choice to change our folding knife blade steel to S30V was thoroughly thought through, as was the selection of RC hardness 58-59. I was privileged to be involved in the development of S30V with the metallurgists at Crucible Steel – they asked what attributes I wanted in a steel and they delivered. At RC 58-59, the blade will hold a good edge and will be easy enough to sharpen. One of our tests resulted in S30V cutting 14,000 linear inches of e-flute cardboard before notable edge wear against 12,000 for BG42. I have been completely satisfied with the performance of S30V."

I have noticed it seems to stay sharp longer already and IMO there is a lot more to a steel's performance than just how it cuts cardboardin a simulated test. Most people here read that by the way. IMO 58-59 S30V sounds good and looks good on paper but in real world use the 60-61 BG42 is already performing better for me and hasn't had the issues the S30V had. I know some people take things they're told as gospel just because someone they like said it but I don't. I think and judge for myself and thank you for the quote. I'm closing this because it seems it's going in the wrong direction. Thanks for all the compliments.
