Family from northern California came in and brought me some wood. Said they were bringing me a couple of pieces that would probably be good for knife handles. I was more than surprised when I helped unload them. All old growth redwood burl that was cut at least 40 years ago they said. The big slab has some beautiful grain, but I dont think I have the heart to cut it into blocks. I think it's destined to be a patio table for the new house. Just had to show off/brag a bit to some folks who would appreciate it

If you really want to feel bad, it was 'saved' from an older lady that had been using it for firewood....

Does she have more?
I would trade a truckload of firewood for another slab like that.
Finding pieces like yours usually happens by accident.
Usually can't find the good stuff when you are looking for it.

There are more boards. Not sure about big slabs. Ill be bringing some home next time I go to Cali ha

That will make an awesome table top! Throw a dutchman or three along that crack to help keep it from working further along.

WOW!! Whata score! I'm envious. Be very thankful.

Btw: A dutchman is kinda like a bow tie shaped piece of wood turned cross-wise across the crack and inlaid into the surface of the board. It helps hold the crack together. Matching color of wood or contrasting color for the dutchman is your choice.
