I managed to find a fine scotch brite wheel for my angle grinder to test it out on a blank. It works great for minor scratches and getting it ready for final finishing. But I noticed it leaves dark swirls in some areas. Should I be using this for final finishing and with a buffing compound?
 
Doesn't seem to me there is any way to avoid a swirl or an arc pattern using an angle grinder, a slow steady pass in one direction should minimize the swirl..no compound

I understand the swirling will be there. But if I pass over a part of the blade twice or more it darks the steel a bit....wish I had pics to further explain..
 
Yes. I'm still learning. I should probably be doing all of these pre heat treat.
 
scotch brite would be the last thing you do after heat treat and before you start scales
