Here is my next project, I'm taking a Scotch Dispenser and cutting the off to make a subhilt style knife and adding a micarta handle to lengthen it a bit. The blade had a nice double cut type finish on it after being stripped, no heavy grind marks either. Here are the first two pictures.

Here are the day two pictures with the roughed out handle. Next will be to add the hollow rivets and shape the micarta. No, the handle won't be that long, it was just easier to work with up to now.

Day three pictures, the length of the handle is still long, see bottom post for comments.

:D

I might have trimmed just a tad more but I think I see where this is going. Should look good after and if it don't you can send it to me.:D

The ring is only rough trimmed, I left them long until I get a feel for where I think they should be.

I photoshopped a pic of a Scotch Dispenser some time ago to mock up how I thought it could be improved, it turned out looking really nasty and made me glad I don't have access to a shop and grinders anymore...

When you mentioned earlier that you had plans on chopping one up and modifying it, I was pretty hyped to see how it turns out!

I didn't think you'd be starting it so soon. Can't wait to see the next batch of pics!

i seem to recall having seen another SD mod, but since the owner hasn't posted it i'll leave it to his discretion. you never would have known what it started life as, but it came out pretty sweet. i'm looking forward to seeing this when it's finished as well, i really enjoyed seeing some of your knives in eugene, tim.

I didn't post my INFI Pikal knife here because it wouldn't be cool to hijack Tim's thread. ;)

and why not, the porkducci clan hijacks all the threads posted here. porkducci must have 23 aliases

Go ahead and post pictures if you want, the more ideas that are shown the better I think! :D

Now its California legal :p

haha, i was waiting on someone to say that.

The SD is my favorite knife i own, so im interested in this thread, however, wtf are you doing to that blade!!! Why cut the ring??? aside from making it legal for gimmejr and others... ;) i mean maybe i need to shut up and wait and see the final project you got in mind...

Well here goes. I was planning on turning into a 3 finger knife with a traditional blade. I like small reverse edge knives so much that I decided to turn it into just that. :D

Ban, you have a genuine flair for steel and wood.

There is NO WAY this is a recent 'thing' for you. You must have been working with hand tools for a very long time to have this much skill. Carpenter or cabinet maker, perhaps?

I wonder when ... or rather if ... the forging bug will set its teeth into you? ;)
