I was looking for something to drink the other day and ran across a bottle of Johnnie Walker Red left over from some party long past.
So I poured myself a glass and took a sip. And I said to myself, "Is it supposed to taste like this?" Most Scotch tastes to me like like vodka filtered through the ashes of a campfire (The Macallan being a notable exception), but this stuff had none of that, just a chemical or medicinal smell and taste. Hints of vanilla and honey maybe, but overwhelmed by nail polish remover, I think. Is it just my unsophisticated palate, or is this stuff really bad?
Why does this stuff even exist? It can't just be because it's realtively inexpensive. For a few dollars less, you could get a bottle of Jim Beam or Rebel Yell; for a couple dollars more, Sazerac Rye (my current whisk(e)y of choice). I just don't get it.
