I only use two colors of "Scotch-Brite".
The finest grit is white. That's what I use the most. The next color with more grit is kinda grayish brown. These are the only colors I use, but there are two "rougher" grits. Green and something else I can't remember. I know I'm not much help, but you did find out that the white is the finest grit.
