Scott Cook Lochsa or Allen Elishewitz knife

If you are looking for a no nonsense self defense knife, I don't think you can do better than Bob Terzuola's ATCF. I have a framelock ATCF with carbon fiber scales and I find that it's the knife I pick up first when I want to carry something for self defense.

FWIW. Bob has had complaints on his lockups in the past. The one that I had the blade would hit the backspacer on. Just so you are informed. That's not to say that his good ones aren't really good but it would benefit you to be able to check it out before you buy it.

Good point. I've seen issues with knives from multiple custom makers, including Bob. You should check out any knife before buying it or make sure you have a return priviledge if you're buying it sight unseen. Better yet, go to Blade in June in Atlanta and you'll have a chance to handle as many custom knives as you could possibly want and pick what you like best. To the annoyance of some dealers, I have a very low threshold for sending a knife back if I'm not satisfied. I also find that most makers are happy to have you return a knife for repair at no charge other than shipping if there is a problem.

Lots of great suggestions here...I think you would be pleased with any of them.

I would vote for the Lochsa though...the only down side is the two year wait.

All this talk about the Lochsa has made me throw all caution to the wind and start EDC'ing (again) my Lochsa that I bought a few years back. The action is Mayo smooth and the one piece titanium frame is a marvel. Mine's gotten a little beat up but it's just as nice as can be and the marks give it charachter. I may send it back to Scott for a 14kt thumbstud and a mammoth ivory inlay. I need to send it in anyway so that he can put back on his famous "wicked edge".

Hi Scott,

You've probably got one of the few left-handed Lochsa's around. I put one on order last month, only 23 months left until I get it. I didn't know that Scott would put inlays on a Lochsa. A Lochsa with mammoth bark inlays would be awesome. I may have to change my order. I have a question for you. I'm sure it is out of the question to obtain a ZDP-189 blade on the Lochsa so which blade steel would you choose, BG-42, SV-30V or SV-90V? On the Sebenza's I tend to prefer BG-42, don't know why, just do. You said that you were thinking about returning your Lochsa to Scott to restore the edge on it. How long is the turn-around time with Scott? I'm sure it's not as fast as with CRK.

Thanks,

Scott is doing what he calls a pin over the head of the pivot and he can do it in ivory or mother of pearl. Scott recommended the MOP because the inlay is large enough to show the shine on the MOP but not large enough to show the grain on ivory. I'm also having a 14kt thumb stud put on. I just think that having a solid gold thumb stud is just too cool. I'll post a pic when I get it back. I saw one like it at the vegas show and I thought it looked really great.

Hi Scott,

I'm trying to picture what the Lochsa would look like after the inlay modification, but it's difficult to imagine. That's Ok though, I'll wait to see your pictures after you get your Lochsa back. I have plenty of time to make any changes to my order. Looking forward to seeing your pictures. I wonder if CRK would do thumbstuds in 14kt gold. That would be cool.

Thanks,
