May I ask what does "son of freedom" scribed in front of the guard mean?

Fujita yuji, this is the name with which Scott signs all his knives. I'm not sure but I think it's a "free" translation of his surname Slobodian.

What!? That's the first I've heard of this to and that's just terrible! I hope Mr. Slobodian has a good recovery and I'm really sorry to hear that he may not be making knives or swords anymore.
